Where to Eat in Red Deer: Mr Mikes

August 19, 2018

Summer months call for as many patio times as you can possibly fit in. The problem lately has been deciding on a patio that has good drinks, good eats and a good vibe and there didn’t seem to be much of a selection to choose from. This is where Mr. Mikes comes in and they check all the boxes.

About Mr. Mikes

Sitting on the corner of one of the busiest intersections in the city (Gaetz ave and 67th street), you’ll find Mr Mikes Steakhouse and Bar. The Canadian owned steakhouse has been in our city for several years now, serving up steak without the usual steakhouse stuffiness.

Mr. Mikes is dedicated to creating a welcoming, casual atmosphere and is great for a casual date night out, dinner with the family or drinks and appies with your pals. Rather than a lounge or sports bars, like other restaurants, Mr. Mikes has their Urban Lodge. The Lodge can be seen as a mix of your neighbourhood watering hole and a Legion, but with more character. It’s a great spot for your late night eats and drinks, allowing you to have a little bit of fun.

The fun can be found on the patio as well. With fireside tables, giant Jenga and giant Kerplunk, it’s the perfect atmosphere for a hot summer night. And if you’re having fun until the sun disappears, there are heaters and blankets to keep you warm if the drinks don’t.

Along with being a fun place to hang out, Mr. Mikes is committed to their community. If your community event or fundraiser is in need of a BBQ, call Mr. Mikes and they’ll bring the grill and all the fixings. This is a huge benefit that should be taken advantage of!

About the Menu

Mr. Mikes is a casual steakhouse with a little bit of everything on their menu to indulge your tastes. Their latest menu has all the regular favourites, as well as some newer, trendier dishes.

There’s nothing better than a mouth-watering steak, especially here in Alberta, so of course, the steaks are a great place to start. With a variety of cuts and optional add-ons to customize to your liking, it’s hard to say no when they’re cooked to perfection.

If you’re not quite feeling the steak, the Mikes Burgers are some of the most popular menu items. Feeling a little more casual? Try out some of the gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches on their lunch menu.

Do you ever have a hard time deciding what to get for dessert at the end of your meal? Mr. Mikes has that covered with the Junkbowl 5000, which combines all the desserts into one giant shareable (or not) bowl.

Wondering what to drink with your meal? Mr. Mikes is proudly serving a rotating selection of craft beers so be sure to ask them what they’ve got on tap at the moment.

What I Loved Most

I have to confess that I am not always a fan of franchise restaurants as they all kind of start to feel the same, so I wasn’t really sure how much I would like Mr. Mikes. But I ended up falling in love with their patio. It’s the perfect place to have some drinks and eats with a group of friends, or maybe even a date. The fireside tables and blankets keep you cozy while the sun goes down and the patio games are a great way to add a little extra fun to your evening. I can tell you that I will be spending a lot more of my evenings hanging out on this patio this summer. Now who wants to share some bruschetta and a pitcher of sangria with me?
