A Day in the Life with Liam

March 17, 2017

Anytime I ask for reader requests for future blog posts, I always, always get asked to do a day in the life post. Luckily for those who are interested in a behind the scenes peek at my daily life, I’ll be doing two different posts, both with Liam and without since he spends every second week with his dad. Here’s what our day looked like yesterday. This is all unfiltered as it happens, including the photos because #reallife

6:00 – Alarm goes off. Hit snooze and roll over. Before Liam, I never understood the ‘snoozers’. My alarm would go off and I’d hop out of bed no problem? But now mornings are difficult and getting out of bed in the morning seems to be a challenge.

6:10 – Alarm goes off again. I pick up my phone and scroll through social. It’s still hard to keep my eyes open, I just want to doze some more.

6:25 – I’m finally up and in the bathroom to get ready for the day. I battle with my damn eyebrows that are about two months overdue for a wax.

6:45 – Trying to decide what to wear. I currently hate everything in my closet and would really like to burn it all and start over with a fresh wardrobe. Liam is awake earlier than usual and acts as my fashion advisor. He thinks I should wear a dress (he always thinks I should wear a dress). My last pair of tights had a run so I’m forced to choose something I can wear over leggings as it’s not quite warm enough for bare legs.

7:00 – Breakfast making and lunch prep are underway. Liam is having pancakes (I made a batch on the weekend to reheat for him), berries and yogurt. I’m having cinnamon raisin oatmeal with cottage cheese. Liam gets himself dressed and brushes his teeth while waiting for his breakfast. Normally I get his breakfast ready and wake him up to eat and then he will brush his teeth and get dressed. He decides to get dressed in the middle of the kitchen so I’m stepping over clothes while trying to pack my bag for the day.

7:30 – We are finished eating and have breakfast cleaned up. Liam is ready to go earlier than normal and it’s so nice not to have to tell him to hurry up 18 million times.

7:40 – Out the door and on the way to day home. We are early, so we park outside listening to the new Ed Sheeran album until the day home opens at 8.

8:00 – I drop Liam off and vent my frustrations over the This Is Us finale with my day home provider. We’re both frustrated with how they ended the season. Did anyone else watch it?

8:10 – I’m on my way to Social Media Breakfast, which I’m on the organizing committee for. We meet every third Thursday and bring speakers on various topics relating to social media, plus necessary coffee and breakfast treat. I haven’t had coffee yet and am not prepared to get up on stage to introduce myself since my brain isn’t quite in working order but I survive without sounding too silly. Our speaker this month presents on branding and does a great job of motivating the crowd. I also get a chance to connect with some new people that I will hopefully be partnering with for the blog in the future.

10:20 – Off to my big girl job. I definitely need another cup of coffee.

12:00 – I eat lunch at my desk. My day home closes early every third Friday, which happens to be tomorrow so I need to make up the time so I can leave early.

2:00 – I remember that my friend and fellow SMBRD committee member gifted me a chocolate bar from her shop this morning. It’s much needed this afternoon when I’m in desperate need of a nap. Or a vacation

4:30 – Work day is done thank goodness. I’m exhausted and grumpy, not sure if it’s a result of daylight savings at the beginning of the week or if I’m fighting off a lingering cold. But alas, I’m off to pick up Liam again! We head straight from the day home to the swimming pool for his weekly swimming lesson. While he swims, I tuck into my latest book.

5:00 – We head straight from the day home to the swimming pool for his weekly swimming lesson. While he swims, I tuck into my latest book.

6:00 – Lessons are over. Liam completed his backstroke all by himself today but still needs to work on his front stroke. This makes me wonder if he will end up passing this level or not. He only has one class left.

6:30 – We are home. Liam cut his toe in the pool and is quite upset that it’s bleeding and hurts. I give him a band-aid. Why do kids love band-aids so much? We have leftover pizza in the fridge that we eat for supper and I let him watch a show for 20 minutes before we start the bedtime routine. I catch up on some blog emails and this blog post while the show is on.

7:00 – Bath time. Out come the stall tactics. Liam claims he’s still hungry so he has some yogurt before jumping into the tub. Have I mentioned how tired I am yet?

7:30 – Liam wants his hair blow dried after the bath and then asks if we can go for a haircut tomorrow. When he’s done blow drying he says “Don’t I look cute?”. I don’t know where he gets it from…We head to his room and he gets his jammies on and calls his dad to say goodnight before we read bedtime stories.

8:00 – Lights out. I stay and snuggle for a few minutes and then go to do some blog work while he falls asleep.

9:00 – Liam is finally asleep. Time for me to jump into the shower.

9:20 – Every night I go in and give Liam a kiss while he’s asleep. He looks so damn cute snuggled up in his big bed. I crawl into bed myself with my book.

10:00 – Lights out. Ready to crash and do it all over again.

Stay tuned next week for a day in the kid-free life.

I love these posts 🙂 I usually not one to hit snooze but twice this week I did, between fighting off an impending cold (thanks kids) and the time change I needed that extra sleep!
I need to get A back in swimming – maybe in the fall.
Too funny “don’t I look cute?” – I always wonder where kids pick up little sayings from!

Yeah this time change is clearly kicking my butt. I didn’t think it was going to until Monday night.

    I love this!
I keep meaning to do a day in the life post, but only remember at, like, 3pm, and then I have no pictures of my day. Ha.

Haha, I could never remember either. I had to set myself a bunch of alarms and reminders.

Yay! You did it! 😉 I still have to watch the last episode of This is Us. I’m kind of scared too…I’m worried it will be super sad and then I will be mad that this season is over. How are you liking that book?? Where’s Liam’s spiderman mask from?? Sully is obsessed with Spiderman right now: “Spiderman is my BEST friend, mama!” LOL.

The last episode was angering. Text me when you’ve watched it so we can discuss.
The book is REALLY good. I like the different perspective but the subject matter is so cringe-worthy. I’m dying to finish it because I want to know if the man is who I’m suspecting right now.
The masks are from Chapters Indigo online. It comes in a two pack and is reversible with a plain black side. They’re awesome.

YES! Love it. What a fun kid you’ve got! 🙂
I was so unhappy with the last episode of This is Us.

I think I invented the snooze button. I’m so bad!! I’m pretty sure I have never gotten out of bed without hitting it at least once or twice!

Sounds like Liam is doing great in his swimming lessons. I really need to get my kids into them but it’s so hard to find a time that works and doesn’t fill up in 5 seconds! I was going to put them in some lessons starting next month but I procrastinated by a day in registering and now it’s book. I need to get on it!

Your social media group sounds neat!

Liam’s come a long way from swimming lessons last year but he still failed this level. It’s hard because they need so much practice to be able to do all the stuff they learn successfully on their own so he still failed this level. Ugh. Our swimming lessons are ridiculous to get into as well. Registration opens a week before classes end so you don’t know what class to enroll in when registration opens and they are all full by the time you know what class you need. So frustrating!!
