Hi, friends! How has your week been? Has anyone noticed that I haven’t been posting as frequently? I decided to take a step back from some of the more mundane, ‘just because’ posts. I found myself writing a weekend recap thinking, “who the hell cares what I did this weekend?” and wanted to work on bringing you more valuable content. Of course, it’s still fun to check in with what’s happening so I will still be sharing the fluffier stuff when I have something fun to share. Which brings us to today.
- Yesterday was #BellLetsTalk day and so many of my friends opened up to talk about their struggles with depression and anxiety. I had tears in my eyes on and off throughout the day reading all of the raw truths and honesty being shared. I hope that we can continue to move in a direction where we feel safe to open up about the difficult parts of life, whatever they may be, instead of only showcasing the highlight reels. And I hope that we can all take a moment to rethink our words the next time we question or criticise the actions of someone else because you truly do not know what anyone is battling inside.Let honesty, kindness and compassion be stronger than vanity, judgement, and apathy.
- I had a pretty awesome date to the city on Sunday. Our first stop was in Airdrie to check out the newly opened Thumbprint Craft Beer Market. I picked up a few singles to try plus filled a howler that I can’t wait to consume. I wish there was a dedicated craft beer store like this in Red Deer, but you can bet that I’ll be stopping in at Thumbprint on my way to the city from now on. Next on the agenda was brunch at Galaxie Diner. I had some pretty epic eggs benny and a taste of the boys Montreal smoked meat which has me wanting a sandwich from Myhre’s Deli next door. From there we wandered 17th ave and did some record shopping before making our way to Common Crown for a tasting flight. Somehow it was time for dinner after that and we shared a plate of tacos at Native Tongues followed by a single scoop at Village Ice Cream. We left the city stuffed if anything! It was a really fun day and while I missed visiting friends or family, I enjoyed getting to explore some new parts of the city. Hands down, best date I’ve been on for quite some time. I think I’ll keep him around.
- Tuesday we had a team lunch at my favourite restaurant in the city. The special was a quesadilla with yak, chorizo and bacon. YAK! I decided to go for it and it was so freaking delicious. Then I happened to stumble across a picture of a yak and felt a little bit guilty for enjoying eating one so much because those things are adorable! Sorry cute little fella.
- If you’re local to Red Deer, I have a little giveaway going on over on Instagram. Be sure to enter yourself to win the gift of yoga for you and a friend!
That’s all from me today! Let me know what you’ve got on your mind this week!
