Thinking Out Loud

January 26, 2017

Hi, friends! How has your week been? Has anyone noticed that I haven’t been posting as frequently? I decided to take a step back from some of the more mundane, ‘just because’ posts. I found myself writing a weekend recap thinking, “who the hell cares what I did this weekend?” and wanted to work on bringing you more valuable content. Of course, it’s still fun to check in with what’s happening so I will still be sharing the fluffier stuff when I have something fun to share. Which brings us to today.

  • Yesterday was #BellLetsTalk day and so many of my friends opened up to talk about their struggles with depression and anxiety. I had tears in my eyes on and off throughout the day reading all of the raw truths and honesty being shared. I hope that we can continue to move in a direction where we feel safe to open up about the difficult parts of life, whatever they may be, instead of only showcasing the highlight reels. And I hope that we can all take a moment to rethink our words the next time we question or criticise the actions of someone else because you truly do not know what anyone is battling inside.Let honesty, kindness and compassion be stronger than vanity, judgement, and apathy.
  • I had a pretty awesome date to the city on Sunday. Our first stop was in Airdrie to check out the newly opened Thumbprint Craft Beer Market. I picked up a few singles to try plus filled a howler that I can’t wait to consume. I wish there was a dedicated craft beer store like this in Red Deer, but you can bet that I’ll be stopping in at Thumbprint on my way to the city from now on. Next on the agenda was brunch at Galaxie Diner. I had some pretty epic eggs benny and a taste of the boys Montreal smoked meat which has me wanting a sandwich from Myhre’s Deli next door. From there we wandered 17th ave and did some record shopping before making our way to Common Crown for a tasting flight. Somehow it was time for dinner after that and we shared a plate of tacos at Native Tongues  followed by a single scoop at Village Ice Cream. We left the city stuffed if anything! It was a really fun day and while I missed visiting friends or family, I enjoyed getting to explore some new parts of the city. Hands down, best date I’ve been on for quite some time. I think I’ll keep him around.
  • Tuesday we had a team lunch at my favourite restaurant in the city. The special was a quesadilla with yak, chorizo and bacon. YAK! I decided to go for it and it was so freaking delicious. Then I happened to stumble across a picture of a yak and felt a little bit guilty for enjoying eating one so much because those things are adorable! Sorry cute little fella.
  • If you’re local to Red Deer, I have a little giveaway going on over on Instagram. Be sure to enter yourself to win the gift of yoga for you and a friend!

That’s all from me today! Let me know what you’ve got on your mind this week!

Your Calgary weekend sounds perfect, you hit up a lot of great spots. Some I haven’t even been to that I need to add to my list.

I agree that it’s an overwhelmingly positive thing when people open up about their struggles, whether it be depression, anxiety or anything else going on in their lives. It’s important that we all know that other people are struggling too, and what people present on social media is not the full story.

I want to go to all those places you went on your date!! Galaxie diner sounds so fun, and looks super cute! I know what you mean about the weekend recaps…not that I don’t enjoy reading yours! But when I was going through my posts when I was writing my 2016 in Review post, it was nice to have the odd weekend recap, but even for just my own means, I wouldn’t want 52 weekend recap posts…haha. BUT, we have a lot of boring weekends around here 😉

What a great sounding day that included so many yummy places in the city 🙂 Now I want brunch and ice cream. I would love to try that brewery in Airdrie but I am quickly running out of time 🙁
I totally understand the weekend recap thing – sometimes I really didn’t do anything that overly exciting so I feel like the isn’t much point to write: I drank wine and read a book Ha Ha

It’s actually just a beer store, not a brewery! Lots of selection though, it’s awesome. It’s so sad that you’re moving 🙁 I mean, for us anyways!!
