Where to Workout in Red Deer
I’m so thrilled with the great response to this series so far. It makes me even more excited to get out to all the new-to-me facilities and put my body through the ringer to share my experiences with you. The second stop of the tour took us to 30 Minute Hit and truthfully, I expected not to like it much. Boy, I was proven wrong. I came out loving the facility, the workouts, the trainers, and my entire experience there. I hope my women readers will take their time to give it a try!
About 30 Minute Hit Red Deer
30 Minute Hit, located just off 67th street, is a women’s only boxing/kickboxing circuit workout. It is a Canadian franchise with about 46 locations across Canada and now venturing into the United States. Walking through the doors into the Red Deer location makes you feel like home. The staff are beyond friendly and welcoming and go out of their way to learn every single member’s name. How they remember everyone is beyond me, but it’s an extra touch that goes a long way.
30 Minute Hit truly helps to empower women. Not only because it’s a killer quick and effective workout and most of the movements can be used for self-defense in the real world, but because it’s a judgement-free facility. There are women of all shapes, sizes and abilities there to get their sweat on. The fast paced workouts leave no time for gym drama. Kicking and hitting the bags is truly cathartic and makes you feel like you can stand up to anything and anyone.
The facility itself is perfectly laid out, with tons of storage for your stuff and absolutely spotless. Beyond the front desk are a spacious change room and separate bathroom, both stocked with toiletries you may have forgotten. There is a small, playroom with open windows facing the circuit area and front desk, loaded with toys, colouring books and DVDs to give plenty of options for any kids hanging out while mama gets her workout on. While the play area isn’t supervised, it’s close enough to keep a watchful eye on your child.

About the Workouts
The 30 Minute Hit circuit was created to with busy women in mind to get an effective workout that will help build strength and endurance. You can start literally any time and be finished in 30 minutes. There are 13 stations, each lasting 2 minutes, consisting of various punches, kicks or core movements using swiss balls and medicine balls. Your initial class will be spent learning the proper techniques and movements for each station, but you can expect to take about a month to really get the hang of them all. These stations do not change, however, trainers can modify and alternate similar movements to keep the circuits different every time you come in. As you become more comfortable with the movements and techniques, they progress through more intermediate and advanced movements. Each station has pictures of the movements and the three different levels so you don’t forget, which is super helpful when you’re first starting out.
Of course, you can always expect the trainers to throw something new at you to challenge you.
There are usually 1-2 trainers on the floor and they don’t miss a beat. Even if all the stations are full, they will push each and every person in there to work at their full potential. You definitely can’t get away with taking breaks or slacking off.
30 Minute Hit operates on monthly memberships which allow you to attend an unlimited number of days throughout the month. They do offer a free, no obligation trial at all locations.

What I Loved Most
I honestly expected that I wouldn’t like 30 Minute Hit and walked away absolutely loving it. The fact that the trainers took the time to get to know me personally and challenge me daily was huge. I loved the quick and effective workouts and the variety the trainers threw at me every day. I love that you can truly fit 30 Minute Hit into your busy lifestyle, bring your kids and be done in such a short amount of time without losing the quality of your workout. But most of all, I loved how I felt when I walked out of the gym every day. The feeling of empowerment and accomplishment and like I was a total bad ass babe who can stick up for myself physically, mentally and emotionally. 30 Minute Hit was as good for my mental health as it was for my physical health and that’s truly what I loved the most.
