We made it! We survived the week and the long weekend is just a few short hours away. I have to say, after a busy week filled with activity, I’m looking forward to some down time, some good eats and hanging out with the family.
This week was kind of an exciting one for me as I made an appearance on Facebook Live to announce my big collaboration project with Bond Nutrition. We’re setting out to review all of the different fitness classes, studios, gyms, etc in the city of Red Deer, and I’ll be testing and reviewing some of the amazing products you can find at Bond Nutrition along the way. I’ll be talking about my experiences in the classes during my usual Fitness Friday posts and then sharing everything you need to know about the facility in my new series “Where to Workout in Red Deer”. I’m really excited about this project and I hope you guys will be too. If you have any ideas of what you’d like to see from these posts or you’re a studio owner and want to work with us, please feel free to contact me! And if you didn’t catch us on Facebook, here’s our adorable little announcement:
Now let’s talk about what I got up to this week! This week I’ve been checking out a variety of classes at Studio Pilates. They recently moved into a beautiful new space and it is stunning! But, don’t let that prettiness fool you, I definitely got my butt kicked this week!
TRX – I have done TRX classes before but it had been a couple years and I was excited to try it out again. I loved that we had a small class (three people!) and we all had a lot of fun together. The instructor was fantastic about showing us how to change our angles to make the various movements we went through easier or harder based on our own personal level. We focused on legs and arms with some cardio and core as well. By the time I got home, I could barely lift my arms, they were dead. Definite signs of a successful workout.
I was a hurting unit on Tuesday and was very thankful for Jess from Bond Nutrition hooking me up with some BCAA’s before our barre class. I dumped a couple scoops of the Essential Amino Energy from Optimum Nutrition into my water bottle to sip on through our squats and plies. It gave me a bit of an energy boost from the green tea extract, tasted great and for sure helped reduce muscle soreness for the rest of the week.
Our Booty Barre class ended up being more a Booty Barre Sculpt class, which ended up incorporating some pilates movements into it. I actually enjoyed it a lot more than my first ever barre class. I still can’t get over how much just the warm up kills me though. This class made me consider adding barre into a more regular rotation in my fitness routine.
By Wednesday my body was clearly confused about all the unusual workouts I was putting it through. I was slightly sore (but not as bad thanks to those BCAA’s) and a whole lot tired. Bond to the rescue again! They looked me up with a couple packets of Supernova preworkout from Nutrabolics (as seen in our FB Live video). This stuff was amazing. It perked me right up, tasted super yummy and didn’t give me the pins and needles feeling that come with some preworkouts. And I was able to fall asleep no problem. I have a caffeine sensitivity, where if I have any past about 1 or 2 in the afternoon, I have a hard time falling asleep. It’s the worst.
After chugging some of that delicious preworkout, we were off to get our butts kicked at a class called The Worx, which is an intervals class the combines high intensity cardio and strength training. We used Bosu balls, TRX straps, stability balls, weights, skipping ropes and our bodies to boost our heart rate and kill our muscles. My triceps and hamstrings were on fire the whole class. This was another small class, with only three participants which I love since the instructor can really focus on making sure we’re working safely and in an appropriate level for our needs.
Check out that lighting!! I seriously love how pretty this studio is!
I was originally going to try out Piloxing, which is a mix of pilates, boxing and dancing and sounds like a blast, however, due to some scheduling changes and my tired body, I decided the Hatha yoga class sounded much more appealing.
It felt so great and I think the slowness helped release the lingering tension in my sore muscles.
Tonight I’m feeling like I might brave the chilly air to go for a run after work to get a nice good shake out in before the long weekend indulgences.
I have to say, I feel pretty good about this week of workouts. The variety of classes at Studio Pilates makes it super fun to switch things up and get away from the usual routine. Watch in the coming week for a full post on the studio itself and what you can expect to see there.
I hope you all have a beautiful Thanksgiving weekend with your loved ones!
