Fitness Friday: My First Pilates Experience

Last week I was totally out of commission due to an inflamed tendon in my wrist. I had spent all afternoon last Sunday in a walk-in clinic. After what started as just a sore wrist out of nowhere, it progressively got worse until I couldn’t move my entire hand and wrist without shooting pain. It’s caused by repetitive movement and the doctor pegged it on exercise. I am not surprised at that, and think the movements from 22 Minute Hard Corp are to blame. Needless to say, I’m done with the program for now. Luckily my wrist was feeling much better this week and I was able to try out a new to me class – pilates!

Monday
Apparatus Pilates at Studio Pilates. This was my first experience with pilates outside of the Beachbody videos and I was definitely intimidated to try the reformer. Normally, you’re suppose to take a fundamentals class to learn the basics and I definitely could have benefitted from that since I felt like I had no idea what I was doing most of the class. Luckily, there was only four people in the class and the instructor was quick to help correct form if needed. I guess I had a good handle on things because after class she complimented me on my form and strength. A lot of the movements we went through were normal movements like squats, lunges, some arms and core but being mindful to engage and work from your core so it really works you in a different way. I could definitely see how you could build long and lean muscles from a regular pilates practice.

Tuesday
4k run – it was lightly raining when I headed out but I wasn’t even upset about it because it was so gorgeous on my neighbourhood trail. The fall vibes and rain were super refreshing.

Walked home for lunch and back to work – 30 minutes

Thursday
Walked to work and back – 30 minutes

Friday
I’m off to a ‘Happy Hour at the Barre’ class

I have a busy weekend ahead with swimming lessons, family visits, friend visits and if the weather cooperates, Sunday runday!

    I’ve never tried pilates before (well not in a proper class like you did) and I’ve always wanted to! I’m looking forward to hearing more about your experience with it.

    I used to try pilates long time ago and I found it very interesting! Currently I just work out at home, try to achieve my goals in the training plan of yoga. Thanks for sharing!
