The last time I mentioned going on a date on the blog, I feel like I broke the internet with the number of people commenting and texting asking for details! It’s not a topic I discuss too much, mostly because it hasn’t been a huge priority for me over the last couple years. However, I wanted to share some of my favourite date activities or things I’d just like to try. There’s something to be said about a man who takes an initiative to plan something fun and original. Fellas, here’s your chance to impress your next date. There’s nothing worse than getting stuck in the mediocre dinner and a movie rut. Maybe you’re looking for some fun ideas for your next Tinder date, somewhere new to take your spouse, or even just a fun night out with your pals. There’s definitely not a shortage of fun and unique things to see and do in Red Deer.
Heritage Ranch is hands down my favourite spot in the city and something I consider a bit of a hidden gem. There are tonnes of activities, from carriage rides, trail rides, and Ranch Tracker (like the show Man Tracker), an amazing restaurant and beautiful trails to explore. My recommendation is to splurge on a dinner for two and walk it off along the 2km loop through the trees, stopping at the fishing pond and the river to watch for wildlife.
Laser Tag and Dinner at Famoso
I have a bit of a competitive streak and am oddly good at laser tag. It’s pretty fun to battle it out to see who comes out on top and then refuel over the best pizza in the city since Famoso is so close. Grab a pint of Troubled Monk and take a chance ordering the Cavoletti pizza. Don’t forget to share (or not) some gelato afterwards.
Disconnect at Gaetz Lake Sanctuary
There’s something to be said about feeling like you’re escaping the city, without actually leaving. Pack a sunset picnic of charcuterie and wine, park at the Michener Centre, then walk down the hill to the gate for the south end of Gaetz Lake Sanctuary for a more secluded lookout (regular access is through Kerrywood Nature Centre). You’ll be sure to enjoy the stillness of nature while watching for beaver and muskrats, deer and ducks.
Get Lost in the Corn Maze at Kraay Family Farm
You’ll have to hop in the car for a quick 20-minute drive to Lacombe’s Kraay Family Farm. There are a tonne of activities in addition to the corn maze. To make full use of your trip North, stand in line for the famous cannoli from Sweet Capone’s, hit up Blindman Brewing for a tasting flight before dining at Cilantro and Chive.
Cook Together with Chef’s Plate
I’m a huge fan of trying new things through Chef’s Plate and sharing in the cooking makes a fun evening together while saving a bit of money if you’re on a tighter budget. Fire up your favourite Spotify playlist, grab a bottle of vino or some of your favourite local brews, roll up your sleeves and get cooking.
So there are my top five date suggestions or favourite activities to do with someone special. Still on the hunt for fun? Here are a few more things that didn’t make the cut or I haven’t had a chance to check out yet:
- Wine and chocolate Tasting at Bernard Callebaut
- Classes at The Cooking Room
- Catch an improv show with Bullskit Comedy
- Test your luck at Lockdown Escape Room
- Grab a cocktail and share some appies at To The Lost
I want to hear from you! What is the best date you’ve ever been on? Or the worst? Do you have a favourite date night spot?
