Thinking Out Loud

July 28, 2016

I feel like most of my summer posts have been pretty fluffy so I’m continuing the theme with a little bit of thinking out loud today. I do have some more meaningful content lined up in the coming weeks though, so stay tuned. Alas, linking up with Running With Spoons for some Thinking Out Loud.

  • I’m really missing heaving lifting lately. I’m definitely feeling the FOMO seeing friends on various social channels crushing their lifting, not to mention the excitement over the recent Crossfit Games. I just learned that there’s an independent gym that has barbell classes and open gym time with a designated kids area that’s accessible during opening hours. I get really frustrated seeing classes with child minding only during the weekdays, which is not helpful for working parents who’d like to get a class in. My only hesitation in lacing up my lifting shoes is that it’s an hour a couple times a week that I’m not spending quality time with Liam. On one hand, I want to teach him healthy habits by showing him how important fitness is to me, but on the other hand, I feel like our time together is so limited that it feels selfish to use that time for myself.

  • Is anyone else feeling anxiety at the thought of summer soon being over? It feels like it’s hardly begun but that it’s going to be over in the blink of an eye. I have so many things on my summer bucket list and not sure how I’ll ever get through them. I’m trying to jot down one or two activities each week that I have Liam now so we can hopefully get through a good chunk of fun before summer ends. Earlier this week we headed just outside of town for the signature canola field shots. It was such a simple little thing but Liam loved chasing bugs and smelling the clover that was growing nearby.

  • If you indulge in anything this summer, make it a hard root beer floats. Root beer is hands down my favourite soda, but I gave up soda many years ago and never looked back. Ever since reading Kris’s post about beer floats, I knew I had to make a hard root beer float. What better time to do so than having my bestie over for a visit to celebrate her belated birthday. Now go grab some hard root beer, vanilla bean ice cream, and some straws!

That’s all I’ve got today!

Tell me what’s on your mind lately!

I so feel you on being torn about working out. I know I need to but feel guilty for the time I am away.

Totally random, but it’s been so hot here I thought I’d be all over iced coffee, but am instead still enjoying hot coffee each morning and save the iced stuff for weekends.

I still drink hot coffee from the comfort of my overly air conditioned office. But I did have the BEST iced latte for lunch.

mmmm that root beer float looks SO good! I haven’t had a float in ages. I think giving up one hour to lift weights while Liam plays at the gym is totally acceptable – you still have to take care of you, and like you said, it sets a good example! You could always ask him how he feels about it? 🙂

That’s true. I think I would still have major guilt about it. I think it would be easier when he’s old enough to do his own activities/sports at the same time. Or if his dad goes back to being away most of the time.

It really has. And our weather for most of July was terrible so that didn’t help anything!
