I’m Fuelled By Hemp

Last year, I shared my love for Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts and how great they were when added to smoothies. I’m still loving getting those extra nutrients in whenever I can.

I’ve always reached to a protein shake for a quick way to refuel after a sweaty workout. I’ve been loving throwing a few tablespoons of the Hemp Protein Smoothie powder into a shaker cup with a bit of coconut almond milk. I was a bit worried that this protein powder would be too ‘earthy’ tasting but was pleasantly surprised by the flavour. It’s a bit nutty tasting, but nothing overpowering. It mixes smooth with no weird texture. Perfection.

Not only does it taste great just mixed with milk, it’s packed with protein and greens. You can’t go wrong with organic kale, spinach and broccoli, 15 grams of plant-based protein and slightly sweetened with organic coconut sugar. The ingredient list is short and simple, with absolutely no scary stuff. It doesn’t get much better than that really. I’m a fan of all three flavours, chocolate, vanilla chai and mixed berry.

I even decided to test out the hemp protein with some baking, making some flourless chocolate muffins adapted from a recipe found right on the Manitoba Harvest website. They were so simple to make not to mention incredibly tasty, it’s going to be hard not to eat them all before Liam comes home to enjoy them too.  Shhhh…don’t tell him ok?

    it’s hard to find a powder that isn’t gritty or chalky tasting. and i love supporting canadian companies like manitoba harvest and vega when i’m buying my stuff!

      I agree, there’s nothing I hate more than a chalky powder. No thanks!

    Yum! I love baking with protein powder- if it turns out edible! Haha

    I look for something clean – without additives, fillers, chemicals and isn’t chalky or gritty!

    I also have a huge mental block when it comes it hemp products; my first inclination was “it’s gonna taste like grass”. And then I’m like “smotthies/shakes are such a healthy living fad, no thank you”. I’m seriously a pain in the ass to be around….but definitely won’t drink smoothies till it’s warmer than 10/15 degrees, they just make me so cold.

    I’m intrigued! I go in spurts with protein powders, but it’s always nice to know there are tasty plant-based ones out there! And I too love supporting Canadian companies when I can!

      Apparently you can buy at Costco for about $18/bag, which gives you a month worth of servings
