Raw Remedies with Glow Juicery

February 19, 2016

I’ve been battling another brutal cold/flu this week. Being sick is the worst.

My first instinct on a sick day is to reach for comfort foods, cheese bagels, mac and cheese or spicy Asian food. I know it’s not good for me and likely won’t help me get better any quicker, but it tastes good and brings me the comfort I need. I know that the best plan of attack is to fuel a sick body is healthy, nourishing food, not junk. Even better is to reach for raw food, superfoods packed with antioxidants. All the good stuff needed to fight the virus. Which is why Glow Juicery and Raw Food Cafe is now becoming my go-to for sickness.

Since Glow opened up in Red Deer, I find myself rushing to grab a cold fighter juice but never thought about picking up raw soups and salads for an extra punch. Raw foods consist of high density, plant based, whole foods, all uncooked. It’s believed that the nutritional value of food decreases when it’s heated over 105 degrees F so raw food diets consist of beautiful salads, raw soups, smoothies and more. There are tons of benefits of eating raw food, increased energy and digestion, alkalizing, less waste and simple to prepare.

Oh, and have I mentioned the coconut bacon is a game changer?

This week I picked up a couple salad and juice combos (plus an RX shot for an extra boost), instead of turning to the junk to help kick this cold to the curb. I can say for a fact that my body appreciated the extra nutrients over the unnecessary junk.

I’m like you, KD and spicy Asian food when I’m sick, please! It’s my trigger that I really AM sick, though I do try to fill myself full of veggies and healthy things in the hopes I can kick it faster.

I’m actually surprised that Glow opened in Red Deer before Calgary! We never seem to get the cool things first.

Ugh, I crave all the bad foods too when I’m sick. It’s like the calories don’t count when you aren’t feeling well 😉 I should probably be drinking green smoothies instead of homemade chocolate banana milkshakes, huh? I’ve never actually tried cold pressed juice! Must remedy that soon. Hope you (we both!) feel better soon!

Cold pressed juices are pricey but so yummy. I can never seem to make my own juices taste as good.
