Liam’s Baby Book

January 26, 2016

Growing up, I loved to sit with my mom going through my baby book. I knew when I was pregnant that I wanted to create a baby book for Liam to look back on as he grows. I found what I thought was a great book with lots of places to write and keep mementos. Then life changed a little when Liam’s dad and I separated, and I no longer felt the book was fitting.

Enter Ookpix, a Canadian site for creating and printing custom photo books, calendars, wall art and more.

After selecting one of the baby book templates, I got to work uploading and inserting photos from Liam’s first year including monthly letters that I wrote. I was mindful to leave space to write in his weight/length/likes/dislikes updates as well as room to include any keepsakes. I love photo books but feel like printed photo books lack the personal touch of a scrapbook. This was my way of making the baby book that much more special.

It was pretty quick and painless to put together, although I wish I could have been able to customize the backgrounds (I’m not a fan of chevron print). The great part about this site is that it’s Canadian, based out of Calgary. With the price of our dollar right now, it’s great to be able to shop locally and save on the exchange. Did I mention they have flat-rate shipping? I love that you can order as much as you want and it doesn’t end up costing any more in shipping.

My book seemed to show up almost overnight after ordering. I always love when things arrive sooner than expected. I was a little disappointed that the whole last page of the book was missing the photos I had inserted, however a quick email to them and they had it reprinted and on it’s way to me no problem. I was very happy with the customer service with this company.

Liam and I spent one evening cuddled up together on the couch going through the book together, looking at all the pictures. He thought it was pretty funny seeing himself as a baby and it was a great trip down memory lane for me.

I didn’t have a baby book. It’s something I wanted to do for my kids but I have a tough time keeping up with it. I try to record dates and will hopefully be able to transfer them to a book later.

It’s definitely easy to lose track of. I’m thankful for this blog for keeping all of that stuff in one place for me!

I made a scrapbook-style baby book for my son. My favourite memory was his first Christmas.

LOVE this!!! I like chevron though 😉 What a great mix of both a photobook and regular scrapbook. I need to print pictures for Leo’s baby book. I have some but not all of them.

I made books for both kids. Audrey’s was given to us so it wasn’t my first choice in style but it works. Leo’s I picked but it still isn’t my favourite. I love looking through my baby album.

Maybe I’ll check them out next time. I just got the book I made Sunday in the mail today, but I’m not really a fan of the site I used.
Thankfully Rema made all the kids scrapbooks because O’s baby book from me consists of a scrap of paper that has milestones I hoped to date and never did.

Well, there’s still time. No one has to know you didn’t fill out his baby book for a few years 😉

Love their products and their customer service! I wish that they offered free shipping still, but it’s nice if you live in Calgary that you can pick it up for free

Yes, free shipping is always nice but free pick up is a sweet deal. They even offered to let me use their scanners for a different project I was trying to work on.

I don’t have any kids, so I’ve never done a baby book, but I have certainly made memory books for other family members as well as my fiancee. I love getting custom books printed with our pics!

Oh man, I special ordered a really nice baby book from a lady who makes them in BC (mushy books) and it was so expensive and I have yet to write a word in it, lol! Thank god for my blog posts so that one day, if I ever get around to it, I should have most of the information I need for it. I’ve always wanted to do a photo book for him of his first year too though! Must also get on that, haha! 😉

I was looking at Mushy Books! I just didn’t end up going with it for the same reason as any other store bought book. Didn’t feel right. Wanted the book to be less about parents thoughts and more about Liam.

I love doing digital scrapbooks, we have done one for our families every year as a Christmas gift since getting married. Good alternative to printing out photos for them all the time!

Yes. I love keeping photos and mementos, but scrapbooking is too time consuming and tedious for me. Photo books and digital scrapbooks are a good option for sure.
