Stay Healthy For The Holidays with Glow Juicery

December 8, 2015

Cold and flu season is upon us and it’s already hitting full force. A couple weeks ago a terrible stomach bug spread like wild fire through Liam’s day home, plaguing anyone who stepped foot in the door. I am feel very lucky that I somehow managed to avoid it.  I’m sure that there are more nasty bugs to come but I’m crossing my fingers that I can avoid them all until the new year now.

The holiday season is far too busy to get knocked out but a bad cold or flu. I have so many fun activities I want to do with Liam before going home for Christmas. And of course there’s the NYE parties as well. I’ve been trying to stay on top of things with a healthy-ish diet, regular exercise, vitamins and cold-pressed juices from Glow Juicery.

I’m a firm believer in using food as medicine. I’m always adding extra honey, lemon and garlic into our days when colds are looming while brewing a fresh batch of broth for soup. Pressed juice is no different because the process allows vitamins, trace minerals, enzymes and other elements to be preserved in the process. And sure, I have a juicer and could save the $8 to make my own, but they just never turn out as delicious as Glow juices.

Glow Juicery Red Deer just recently opened up in Red Deer (in the strip mall south of Bower Mall if you were wondering) and on my last visit in to their cute little cafe, I left with their Holiday Survival Pack of four juices. By the way, they have a selection of raw food salads, soups, acai bowls, and other snacks that are definitely a must try. The coconut bacon is life changing. But I digress. I’m fairly certain picking up this Holiday Survival Pack the day Liam started throwing up helped me fend off the bug.

If you’re local and hoping to make it through the holiday season free of sickness, I definitely recommend stocking up on some juices. You can grab your own Holiday Survival Pack for $30 plus save on gift cards for your juice crazed friend or family member.

Mmmm, I’ve never tried Glow Juice, but it’s been on my list for ages now! (And I’m entering because I will totally come to Red Deer to claim my prize if I win! ;)) I don’t think I have too many secrets…homemade smoothies for sure, extra sleep if I can, and for this year, choosing not to travel over the holidays because we are always traveling for Christmas and it’s stressful, tiring and this year I said, no more! 🙂

Mmmmm, I love sweet juices. I can’t really handle ginger in them but I love how it makes my skin feel!! (<- is that weird?) haha!

Haha not weird. I’m not a total fan of the ginger either to be honest, but I suck it up because it makes me feel so good. We’re weird together.

To be honest, in our house hold, we are a little bit like scrooges, we rarely decorate (yet though, our kids are getting older and we will have too soon). We are also lucky that my side of parents won’t push us to split up the holidays making us drive in between the sets of grandparents. So my survival tip is to do less so that you don’t stress!

I tried this juice the other day from big bend. Vitamin G or something, I think next time I’m trying the beet or one of the green ones

I love the holidays especially with kids now. I try to make sure the treats are worth it before indulging. Store bought really isn’t worth it but I won’t stress about eating a few homemade butter tarts ?

That’s a great strategy. I’m into more savoury things so I can usually skip the baking.

I’m not local but I plan to see you soon hahaha!

I survive the holidays by trying to get a lot of rest, drinking lots of water and sticking with my workout routine. When I travel I love to switch things up (Running at home along the water?! Yes please!!)

Love me some juice. Not a big fan of Christmas till Christmas Eve at that point everyone’s grumpiness is usually gone and I get to spend some time with the family and I have a little tradition of stopping by several friends places over a few days to eat their food and drink their drinks 🙂

I love fresh juices too and will have to try theirs over the holidays. I don’t have many tips as I am usually pretty relaxed over the holidays but make sure I have breakfast with protein, sneak in workouts when I can and try to not consume calories in beverages unless it’s totally worth it 🙂

Since I know I will be indulging over the next few weeks of this holiday season, I make sure to get my workouts in every day!
