My weekend had an unexpected early start and turned into a great long weekend!
Thursday night, I attended a dinner theatre at a neighbouring small town to watch one of my coworkers perform. Our whole department attended and made for a great night out. Liam was so pumped that one of his favourite babysitters was going to be hanging out with him, especially because I ordered them pizza.
I was in bed well past bedtime, around midnight but was woken up at 2am after Liam threw up in bed. He was so upset about getting sick and having to strip his bed in the middle of the night and apologized for waking me up. Poor kiddo. I didn’t get to sleep again until close to 4am. I knew that I would be staying home with Liam in case he was sick again and was thankful that he slept until 8am.
We spent the day taking it easy, mostly watching movies. He had zero appetite but luckily didn’t get sick again. We thought his dad was out of town for the weekend, but he ended up being able to come home and picked Liam up after his nap. I set out cleaning the condo and Lysol wiping every surface down so I could avoid catching whatever bug Liam had.
I was pretty content to have a night in watching Garfunkel and Oates but Mary convinced her boyfriend Scott and I to stop being pathetic people and get out. We ended up at the Festival of Wines, where Mary was pouring for Troubled Monk for the evening.
It was a great event and will definitely be on my radar to attend next year.
I was up and out of the house to watch Liam’s swimming lessons at what felt like a far too early. Thankfully I grabbed coffees on the way.
After swimming, I headed home to throw some laundry in before heading out to meet a girlfriend for lunch and running some errands. We’ve been on the hunt for a good weekend lunch spot to have a drink and scope out some men. I’m convinced no one goes out for lunch on a Saturday other than seniors. Good thing the beer and company are always great!
I picked up Liam later in the afternoon and we headed to my parents for the night. We had an early supper before heading into town to grab a spot to park for the Santa parade.
It had been a very long time since I’d been to a Santa paraded was surprised to see there were people handing out candy canes and other treats. We even made off with some bags of popcorn from the theatre! Score! Liam clearly had a blast. He waved to every single float that went by. And seeing his face when Santa went by at the end….His eyes were so big with wonder. It was a moment I’ll likely never forget.
Liam was so tuckered by the time we got back to my parents place, he went right to bed. He insisted on sleeping in my bed for the night. At one point in the night I had woken up and rolled over to see him waving in his sleep. Clearly he was still dreaming of seeing Santa in the parade. It was so stinkin cute.
Sunday morning kicked off with pancakes. It’s a given that when Liam stays over, my dad makes pancakes for breakfast. We kind of love this tradition. We had a pretty low key morning, just hanging out. When Liam went to play outside, I jumped on the treadmill for 3 miles, getting nice and sweaty.
We ended up leaving mid-afternoon since I still needed to grab some groceries. Liam’s dad came and picked him up for supper so I was able to do a quick meal prep before he came home to bed. Mary stopped in for a visit afterwards and we caught up on all the latest things. I swear we could probably talk all night and never get tired but bedtime was calling both of us.
I’m thankful that Liam’s stomach bug didn’t amount to anything more and ruining the rest of our weekend. It was kind of nice having the extra day to hang out and do nothing.
What did you get up to this weekend?
