Weekend Recap

June 8, 2015

Good morning friends. How was everyone’s weekend? I hope you all took full advantage of the super hot weather! I had Liam all weekend and had big plans of being outside and soaking up all of the sunshine, but unfortunately our plans did not exactly work out.

It was an early pickup day at the day home and I was fully prepared for some afternoon fun. I picked Liam up and headed to a little fountain park downtown. I couldn’t believe we had the whole place to ourselves!

splash park

Funny story: A homeless women rode up on her bicycle and looked as if she was going to take a bath in the splash park. She realized sitting there smoking a cigarette with a kid running around was a bad idea so she apologized and moved on. I saw her stop in the public washroom and was there for quite some time. Three other men rode up on their bikes and were hanging around, some of them going around the back of the building. It was weirding me out big time and I was considering phoning the police. When I saw the women walk out of the bathroom and around the back with rubber gloves on, I made the call. The police arrived quickly but left just as fast. An officer called me right away to say that the woman was known to them and that she had just decided to dye her hair. She was almost done and would be moving on soon. So strange.

We packed up and headed to our favourite park which is way less sketchy and ended up running into some friends there. We stayed until supper time, then came home for a quick and easy dinner. Eggs on toast with strawberry and watermelon salad. We were having too much fun on the balcony having a dance party that I almost didn’t want Liam to go to bed!! IMG_1955

I spent the rest of the evening chopping fruit from the market earlier in the week to make rhubarb apple crisp for breakfast.

There’s no better way to kick off a Saturday morning than with fresh fruit crisp, coffee and sunshine. We had a great morning out on the balcony before heading off to Liam’s last swimming lesson. He passed! He now graduates to an un-parented class in the fall once he’s three. I’m hoping that he matures a lot by then because he does not have any desire to pay attention and listen to the teacher right now.

Liam was kind of grumpy but I decided to risk a trip to the market for some lunch. Bad idea. It was so crowded and all the food trucks had ridiculous lines. Plus people cut in front of me in line TWICE while I was waiting to order. Both Liam and I were extremely hangry. Luckily I succeeded in getting him to go for a nap afterwards. He hasn’t been napping for anyone other than the day home but he clearly needed it and so did I.

When he woke up I packed some snacks and we headed back to the park to meet some more friends for play date before supper. After Liam went to bed, I worked on repainting and hanging a chalk board for Liam outside. I’m going to try and take some better pics of our little outside space because I’m quite fond of it!

We spent the morning watching cartoons and playing outside before going to meet Mary for a run. Liam was being super whiny and clingy when we got to the park and I thought I was going to have to abandon the run. We got him distracted enough that I could sneak away and he was happy as a clam when we got back. We headed off to the grocery store which should have been a quick trip but Mr. Whiny Pants came back and took FOREVER to walk through the store.

After dropping our groceries off at home, we hit the road to my parents house for the afternoon. First stop was lunch on the patio at a local restaurant.

Clearly, Liam was still cranky and whiny. He refused to have a nap, just cried his face off and was super clingy. I realized that he was running a fever (on the hottest day of the year no less) so had to make a dash to town for some children’s Advil. Poor peanut. That helped him feel better so we spent some time outside blowing bubbles, filling bird feeders and riding on the lawn mower with grandpa. Liam ended up spending the night there to make sure he doesn’t get any more sick and I came home to throw some laundry in and get some sleep before the start of the week.

Aside from the constant whiny toddler, it was still a decent weekend. I have zero complaints about the hot weather making an appearance and hope it sticks around. I would like Liam’s sinus infection to take a hike already though.

What was the highlight of your weekend?

Oh man, I’m so weirded out about that lady-in-the-park story. I’m so excited about the hot weather! LOVE the heat.

The highlight of my weekend was… all of it. I was adventuring around the mountains hiking, cycling & exploring lakes. 🙂

That’s so random that the homeless lady just decided to dye her hair in the public washroom. I guess you do what you have to do right? Cranky babies/toddlers are the worst…I can handle alot, but the whining just gets to me. Does that make me a bad mom?

      Right? So random.

That so does not make you a bad mom. If it does than I’m the WORST. I can’t stand when Liam is whiny, it’s just so exhausting.

Yum!! There’s a vendor at one of our farmers market that makes a killer rhubarb raspberry jam that I buy throughout the summer. I should probably learn to make my own.
