I’m so sad the long weekend is already over. It was such a fantastic weekend, but there was so much more I wanted to fit into it.
Friday was an early day home pickup day and we were invited over to Cassandra’s for a play date and BBQ. It was pure chaos but still so nice to see them as we just don’t get to hang out very often anymore.
Liam’s dad picked him up fairly early on Saturday morning. I was surprised when I woke up shortly before 7 to a child that was still sleeping. And then angry that my body woke me up before Liam did.
Despite the pouring rain, I still ventured out for the first farmer’s market of the season. I was surprised by the number of people that were out in the rain and ended up running into quite a few familiar faces. Afterwards I met up with Mary to pick up our race packages which may have also led us to Fionn MacCool’s for a drink. Nothing says a long weekend like day drinking, right?
I zipped home to clean the condo a bit before meeting some other friends for Pitch Perfect 2. Definitely not as good as the first but still lots of laugh out loud moments. I totally would go back to the theatre to see it again.
I feel like I need to invest in a romper after watching that AND I need Becca’s pants from the final performance (again! I loved her pants in the last movie too!).
After the movie I just went home, ate some dinner, had a bath and went to bed early in preparation for my 10k Sunday morning.
Race day! I will do a full recap in a few days (hopefully once I see the race photos).
It wasn’t a PR but I knew it wouldn’t be. I came pretty much exactly in the time I predicted, 1:14. The best part? Being there for Mary as she crossed the finish line of her first race. It’s such a big accomplishment completing your first race and I’m so glad that she chose me to be there for her.
We went out for a celebratory brunch at Brown’s afterwards, complete with mimosas!
Following brunch I had a quick shower and was off to pick up Liam and head to the lake for some family time. My cousin was visiting from Ontario for the weekend so it was nice to see her and my parents came for a couple hours as well. Liam definitely loves playing with our family and it warms my heart so much to see him love on his great grandma.
We headed home after dinner and Liam went straight to bed. I drew a nice hot bath with Epsom salt because I was getting incredibly stiff in my left knee and right hip flexor. I could barely stay awake in the tub and was asleep in no time. I ended up having a restless sleep and tossed and turned until I got up and took some Advil.
I was happy that I woke up feeling much better and my soreness was all gone. We did our standard movies and breakfast before moving to the balcony to enjoy the warm morning sun before the wind picked up. I don’t know what it is about the weather lately but the wind has been so bad. It’s always windy and the wind is COLD which totally ruins the sunny days. Luckily the wind wasn’t blowing in our direction in the morning and I could sit outside in a tank top enjoying my coffee while Liam played at the handmade water table he was gifted.
Eventually we left the house to get groceries so we could have some lunch before heading out on our adventure of the day. There was a carnival in town for the weekend so we met up with some friends to go on the rides. Liam was a little unsure of them at first so we had to start with some that I could ride with him. I only managed to get him to go once by himself without crying. Regardless, we had lots of fun and I think he will be excited to go on the rides again during Westerner Days.
We headed for ice cream yesterday since I wasn’t able to go yesterday and I’ve been dreaming about mojito ice cream all week.
I promise he was excited about his ice cream.
We spent the rest of the afternoon playing at home. Mama may or may not have indulged in a summer adult beverage.
It was much needed since Liam refused to nap but was clearly tired since about 11am. He was so overtired he wasn’t listening most of the day and was just crazy. I finally put a movie on to get him to sit still for a minute or two before supper. I BBQ’d some bacon wrapped shrimp skewers I picked up at the grocery store. Ironically, while I was trying to rescue said skewers after they caught on fire, a firetruck went whizzing by. I thought for sure I had figured out a safe way to get some firemen over but they kept going…
Since Liam started stuttering every word, I knew he needed to have a super early bed time. He was snoring shortly after 6:30. I did some relaxation yoga which really helped alleviate some tightness from the race, showered and headed to bed.
I love long weekends but hate how the week after always seems to feel so long.
What did you get up to this weekend?
Have you seen Pitch Perfect 2 yet? Thoughts?
Favourite ice cream flavour? Anything I must try? I usually stick to tiger, or a nibs and cake batter mix at my local ice cream shop. Seriously, the nibs flavour is on point and THE BEST.
