Hemp Love

March 5, 2015

HempLove

Since receiving my Vitamix for Christmas, I’ve been making Liam and I green smoothies for breakfast every morning. Liam loves them as much as I do, and I especially love seeing him with a green smoothie moustache in the mornings.

While Liam always eats great at the day home, he’s often not interested in eating dinner or swaying from his toast and almond butter breakfast. I take every opportunity I can to pack some nutritional extras into our morning smoothies. I’ve been using hemp hearts in smoothies and salad for an extra boost of protein and omegas for awhile now. Manitoba Harvest has a huge recipe base for more ideas on how to use hemp hearts in your meals, including paleo recipes! Score!

My current favourite smoothie right now includes:

  • huge handful of spinach or kale
  • two stalks of celery
  • 1 tablespoon Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts
  • 1/2 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 cup coconut milk

Interested in trying hemp hearts yourself? Good news, Manitoba Harvest wants to share the Hemp Love by giving away a package of hemp hearts to one of you lovely folks. Use the widget below to enter. (Must be resident of Canada or US, no PO boxes.)

I always do mixed berries, chia, spinach, almond or skim milk with Shakeo! I will have to try these.

Chia is something I’ve never tried. I should sometime!

It’s such a great addition. Flavourless but lots of benefit (and sometimes a pretty color!)

Coconut water, kale and frozen red grapes! (Plus other things, but those three are my go-to!)

Haha, he gets it every time. I keep a cloth nearby at all times when he’s got a smoothie on the go.
