Long Weekend Recap

February 17, 2015

Ah, long weekends are always the best. I find that the extra day really helps me accomplish more so I can be motivated to eat better, workout more and of course relax more. There’s just never enough time to get everything done on the weekend.

Friday
Liam played outside on the balcony for most of the evening before supper and bed time. Since the temperatures have been warmer, the snow left out there was fairly slushy and he was sopping wet when he came in. He has a blast though and that’s all that matters. After bed time I treated myself to a bubble bath while madly trying to finish the book I’m reading before calling it a night.

Saturday
I woke up to Liam yelling ‘My dad is coming! My dad is coming!’. Luckily I knew I had a bit of time before his dad was actually picking him up so I got to work making some Valentine’s Day pancakes. I forgot to turn them pink, but did make sure I included some heart shaped sprinkles. Liam loved them. Of course, no weekend morning isn’t complete without watching Frozen.

Once his dad picked him up, I set out to clean the house and tackle the laundry. I ended up ditching the errands I was going to run to meet a girlfriend for some drinks at Browns Socialhouse. The evening was spent at another girlfriends house for our ‘Singles Party’. She cooked supper and we had a few more drinks around the table into the wee hours of the morning. It was a great night.

In case you missed it, I had posted this on Instagram.

I used to hate Valentine’s Day, regardless if I was single or not. Last year I was asked out on a date for Valentine’s Day and I originally declined because I didn’t want the pressure of a Valentine’s date. I eventually gave in and had a blast. I’ve now realized that Valentine’s Day is for celebrating love and even though I’m not in a relationship, there is still a lot of love in my life.

PS. That lipstick? My new favourite thing. I heard NYX made a fantastic lipstick and was inspired by Tawnya to try a bold lip colour, so picked up a tube during one of my Target hoarding trips.

Sunday
What I should have done Sunday morning was wake up and gone for a run but given the fact that I didn’t make it to bed until nearly 2am, I decided to have a lazy morning in bed reading instead. It was lovely and I have no regrets. If only I didn’t have to get out of bed to make my own coffee…..

I eventually got up and got groceries before heading to a baby shower for the afternoon. It was lovely to see some ladies I don’t see often and do some major girl talk. I ended up leaving the party early to grab some takeout and be home in time for Liam to get dropped off. Poor kid has come down with a cough over the weekend. It’s nothing serious but I loaded him up on vitamins and essential oils in hopes of preventing it from turning into anything.

I drew myself another bubble bath and stayed in until I was a prune. I swear I’m reading the book that just never ends. I’m currently reading The Price of Life– the story of Nigel Brennan who was captured with Amanda Lindhout. I had started it last year right after finishing A House in the Sky but was having a hard time getting into it. Now that I’m on a mission to finish it, it feels like I’ve been reading it FOR-EV-ER. I’m almost done though, finally and excited to get onto something new.

Monday
We had our typical weekend morning, watching cartoons and eating breakfast while waiting for my parents to come by. They wanted to check out a new Asian restaurant that opened so we headed there for an early lunch. They had good Chinese food but I was the most impressed with how good they were with Liam. They brought him his own plastic dishes and cutlery and even made him  kid friendly chopsticks when they saw him attempting to use regular chopsticks.

After Liam’s nap, my parents took him home with them for the night. His cough was getting worse and I didn’t want to risk missing a busy day at work. Can it seriously just be summer yet so I can stop being stressed about my kid being sick all the time?

My impromptu night alone was spent doing some meal prep, catching up on blog work, and a bubble bath.

Did you enjoy the long weekend?

I love your outlook on Valentine’s! So very true. I’m not a huge fan of it, hence why we don’t do much and only get each other something small. And no flowers lol!!
I hope L is feeling better soon! Poor guy.

Although I am single, I don’t hate Valentine’s Day either. I know a lot of women get “bitter” if that’s the right word if they are alone on this day. Not me. I had some great Vdays and some not great Vdays. I always believed that you get what you put out in the world.

    Those pancakes look yummy!

More single ladies need to adopt that kind of outlook on the day!

Ah, I didn’t know London Drugs carried NYX too. I will have to remember that for future lip color needs when Target is gone for good *sobs*

I found Nigel’s book harder to get into also after reading hers but I liked all his detail, I really found you learned more from his about the whole release. Sounds like a fun weekend. I love your lipstick, I always mean to buy some but always forget!! So cute that L was excited for Dad and I am glad you had some time for you!!

Yes, the negotiations definitely kept the book more interesting. The intensity of their rescue made the whole book.

Ohh, how is his book?? I loved Amanda’s book, but have heard mixed reviews on Nigel’s. I hate when books feel like they are taking forever to read. I’m reading Wild right now and it’s the same – it’s so dense that it literally IS taking me forever to read. I’m enjoying it, but still!

Great outlook on V-day! And so cute how Liam was so excited that his daddy was coming 🙂

It was ok….It seemed to drag on which made me not like it much towards the end I was definitely turning pages to read all the details about their rescue.

Good to know about Wild, perhaps I will skip that one and just watch the movie, hehe.

How cute is that Liam gets excited that his dad is coming? 🙂 Glad that they have a great relationship. A singles party sounds like fun! Even being married, we don’t do much for Valentine’s. We’re just not that big into it even though we got engaged on that day 🙂

I wanted to read that book but it doesn’t sound like it’s that good??

Also, I don’t hate Valentines Day. I agree, it’s definitely about celebrating love of all kinds. I liked your post on the subject! xx
