Fitness Friday: 2015 Race Schedule

Oh hey! Happy Friday the 13th! This week seemed to whiz right by (with the exception of yesterday), which is great because I was feeling particularly tired and unmotivated. Yesterday Liam threw up on the way to day home so I turned around and stayed home with him for the day. He ended up being fine for the rest of the day, but with that whole tired and unmotivated thing, I didn’t do much and made for a long day. I’m excited to have a long weekend to get myself back on track.

It’s crazy to look at the calendar knowing that spring is right around the corner and seeing how many races I have scheduled and tentatively scheduled already. Especially because I still don’t really consider myself a runner. Last year I did take advantage of lunch time runs with some coworkers who pushed me to improve and as a result I ran my first 10k ever. I definitely do not have my sights set on any further distances, but it would be cool to try to PR last year’s 10k time and even try to reach that sub30 5k that I’ve been thinking about.

Really though, I know that with my schedule time is limited and training is difficult so the races that I’m doing this year are more just for fun. If I PR, then that’s a definite bonus, but races are just an excuse to meet up with friends. blogrun

My race schedule so far:

May
– Woody’s RV World Marathon – 10k
– Calgary Marathon 10k
(these are two weeks a part, hopefully I will survive both!)

June
– Color Me Rad – 5K – not committed yet, but this is a fun one and there was talk about getting all the girls together to do it again.

August
– Mud Hero – 5K
– LRPS – Haven’t decided on distance but probably 10k again – looking forward to this as it’s an excuse to make the drive to Lethbridge for a bit of a girls weekend.

September
– Spartan Race – Haven’t decided between the Sprint or the Super – if anyone wants to join me for one or the other (or both), that would make my decision easier!

I would also like to find some local 5K’s to throw in there too, given the time.

Monday
Piyo Sculpt  – after a busy weekend, I really needed to catch a few extra minutes of sleep

Tuesday
Piyo Sweat
Kettlebells – This week’s kettlebell workout was intense since it’s been a few days…

I was a little intimidated by the suitcase swings, which is essentially just double kettlebell swings. I’ve never done any work with two bells before. It wasn’t as bad as I thought and I felt pretty bad ass. My arms were DONE after that though.

Wednesday
Piyo Core  – Failed to wake up again. Ugh.

Thursday
Piyo Buns – Decided to switch out for Piyo Core. I had to tweet to my morning workout buddies the night before to give me that kick to get out of bed in the morning. I really appreciate the extra motivation and being held accountable.

Friday
Piyo Strength

Weekend
Hoping to fit in a yoga class and a run and possibly if the weather is nice take Liam snow shoeing or cross country skiing! Related: anyone know where we can rent some gear?

    I will 100% join you for a Spartan in September. Preferably one that is in Red Deer so I don’t have to travel? When and where are they and how many KM’s is the Super?

    You will survive both the 10k’s in May 🙂 2 weekends apart is plenty! Just listen to your body for the rest you will need.

    I am hoping to do a couple 5k’s and 10k’s. I wanted to do a longer race, but couldn’t find one that was local and at a good time for me to adequately train for. I thought, “This is the year I will do Melissa’s!” and then checked their website and found out they are only doing the 10k and not the 22k 🙁

      They are both in Red Deer! I think the Super is 12k, maybe 14, I forget.

      When is Melissa’s, I could do that 10k! haha. That’s too bad they aren’t doing the half though. I wonder why?

        I’m down for either one then. Whichever you prefer. Is registration open? Let me know and I will sign up for the date and time! Melissa’s is September 26th, and registration opens on Wednesday February 18th and will likely sell out fast.

    I have no races planned for this year yet, but will probably sign up for the Calgary marathon 10K and then a fall half marathon. Dreading getting back into running as I know how hard it is!

    Look at you!! I think you have more races lined up that I do! I’d love to do Colour Me Rad- let me know if you sign up.

    I wasn’t going to do Calgary Marathon but maybe if enough people I know are I will sign up.

    Double kettle bells sounds intense! Good for you!!

    Looks like a great race schedule! I really want to do the Rocky Mountain Soap stroller run in May, but haven’t signed up yet. I think I might sign up for the Calgary Marathon 10K too and make that my first 10K this year! That’s my one major goal this year – to run at least one 10K, no time goal, just run it!

    That looks like a good schedule. I think you can rent some snowshoes at Kerry Wood Nature Centre. You are looking strong!
