Well, the holidays are officially over. No more celebrations and get togethers, no more overeating and drinking. No more hibernating, being lazy, sleeping in, giggling with family and visiting friends. Back to work and regular schedules. I’m so glad I was able to take Friday off and have an extended long weekend to enjoy before normalcy returned.
I had to work part of the day and was lucky enough to leave at noon to pick up Liam. My parents had been in town to do some Christmas exchanges so stopped in to visit until Liam went down for a nap. After he was awake again, the two of us headed over to Cassandra’s for a visit. It was the first time since the twins were born that Liam was healthy enough to see the babies! He wasn’t really sure what to think, but he had no issues with me holding them and by the end of the night he was helping to soothe them when they cried. It was so sweet. We ended up ordering pizza while the boys ran around like the crazy toddlers they are. Cassandra and I have spent NYE together for the last several years, but it’s become difficult with the kids now. I was happy we were still able to visit.
Once I was home I did a quick wardrobe change and fixed my makeup. I was off to make an appearance at another friend’s party. Let me tell you, this party was immaculate. The sangria, the catering, the beautiful home. I wish I could have stayed longer, but it was so fun to get out for part of the evening regardless. I was home around 11:30, just in time to crawl into my sweat pants, crack a beer and watch the Niagra Falls countdown before going to bed. I have to admit, it was one of the best New Years Eve celebrations I’ve had in the last few years. If it’s true what they say about how you ring in the new year will be how the rest of your year is, it will be a pretty good year. I got to spend some time with my best friend and her family, I got to briefly escape mommy hood to dress up and meet some new people, and I got to enjoy a bit of time to myself. A perfect balance.
Unfortunately, Liam decided he wanted to party too around 1am and wouldn’t go back to sleep for two hours. Serves me right for staying up until midnight!
Of course, Liam was awake at 7am, which meant I had only three hours of sleep. I was so tired all I wanted to do was turn on a movie for Liam and try to snooze a little on the couch. It was a pretty low key day, watching cartoons and visiting with a friend that popped by.
It was another low key day at home for us. With temperatures so cold, I didn’t feel up to venturing out. I experimented making almond butter in the Vitamin which turned out AMAZING. So good that Liam was eating it from the jar with a spoon. I guess that’s a win.
We had another friend stop by with her little girl and had so much fun watching the two little ones interact. At one point, little Sophie had crawled into Liam’s bed. He’s usually very particular about what is allowed in his bed but gave Sophie some pillows, tucked her in and then curled up on the floor beside her. Such a gentleman! Let’s hope he will continue being such a gentleman in 18 years…
Layne picked Liam up when he was back from work just before dinner, and I went off to meet Alix for some drinks and applies at Earls. It was much needed since I hadn’t seen her FOREVER, especially without the kids.
I lazed in bed for awhile before getting up which felt so nice. I eventually willed myself out of bed to get my Piyo workout done and then commenced a huge clean of the condo. I went through all of the closets, cupboards and pantry and did a big purge and reorganization. By the time I was done 5.5 hours later, I had two big garbage bags and three bags of stuff to donate. It feels nice to start off the new year feeling a little lighter, more organized and clean. Well, the cleanliness won’t last long with the toddler around, but at least I could enjoy it for a day before he came home.
The evening consisted of a nice bubble bath, the last of my beer, and watching About Time. It was a super cute rom com if anyone needed any suggestions. Unfortunately, I had trouble sleeping and I think the pile of chocolate I ate before bed may have been the culprit.
Luckily I was able to sleep in a bit again. I had a slow start to the morning, doing my Piyo workout and making breakfast before I was off to check out The Float Shack and take a float in a sensory deprivation tank. Stay tuned for a full recap of my experience in the coming days. I ran a few errands until the point of starvation so I treated myself to one last meal out before the diet is cleaned up again. After a quick bite, I went to pick up Liam. I had missed him all weekend, but I didn’t even get any time with him since he fell fast asleep on the way home. I managed to get him into pyjamas and all tucked into bed without waking up. He must have had a good weekend.
How did you ring in the New Year?
