Liam’s Big Boy Room

December 10, 2014

When I was pregnant, I never really put any effort into doing up his nursery. I didn’t feel like painting the room since the rest of the house wasn’t painted and didn’t really do much in the way of decorating. When I made the decision to take the side off his crib and turn it into a big boy bed, I figured I would give the whole room a makeover. The walls were full of holes from moving pictures all over the place, so figured some paint would be necessary. I’d never really painted before and am not the best at decorating but I knew that I wanted to be able to utilize the colours already existing (blue curtains, brown furniture). I also knew that I wanted to keep it modern, free of kiddie prints, and be something that transitions well as he gets older.

I forgot to take before photos, but the walls were white and it was pretty plain.

Liam's Big Boy RoomSorry for the terrible quality iPhone pics, but you get the idea…

I’m really happy with how it all turned out. I had a hard time matching blues so there are a bunch of different shades but it seems to really work and I love it. My favourite parts are the pictures on the wall, I hung some photos of family since Liam really loves looking at the photos in the kitchen. I also framed some of his paintings and hope to continue to grow the gallery wall with more photos and paintings as time goes by. The wall colour turned out great too!

I’m pretty sure this is now my favourite room in the house. I can’t believe it all came together in one day. I kind of want to paint my own room now!

It looks awesome! I have started to look a big girl beds for Avery so that I can move her into one in the Spring or early Summer.
I like that you kept it neutral, I keep all our walls beige colours.

Thanks! We had such a beautiful convertible crib so I’m lucky that I didn’t need to find a new bed.

I love your crib style! Ours is nothing fancy, second hand but will be for baby #2 so I’m not converting it.

It looks great! And I don’t blame you for not wanting to have painted before – painting is a lot of work!
