I’m so happy the weekend is near. It’s been a long week with a challenging toddler, sucky drop offs at an alternate day home while his is on holidays, and a major snow storm. The bad has come with some good though, in the form of an really sweet gift, a giveaway win, and very kind, out of the blue texts from friends.
I’m happy to report that my cold has disappeared and Liam’s is mostly gone aside from his lingering cough every now and then. While Liam seems to hold on to his colds for ages, I like to credit essential oils and most recently Recovery Bits for keeping my symptoms mild and not turning into anything horrible. I’ll chat more about my natural ways of fighting sickness that seems to be working for me another day. Today is all about my wins and losses in my little yoga world.
Relax and Realign via Reflexion Yoga – the perfect little series to get my body back in the groove. After a busy weekend, and a hard night putting the toddler to bed, it was nice to have something relaxing but still got me moving.
Hamstring Stretch via Reflexion Yoga – as the title alludes, this sequence was all about loosening up the hammiest, which are definitely tight for me. Afterwards I did my daily headstand and thought I would attempt a scorpion headstand. Of course to capture this on video, I was in a really tight space where I could potentially crash into stuff if I fell. Well, here I am upside down with my feet pointing towards the ground and I feel such a lightness in my head, like it’s not even bearing any of the weight. I felt like I could easily lift it into a forearm stand and I went for it. I crashed, I heard cracking on the way down and have no idea how I even landed but I knew it wasn’t pretty. I honestly thought I had seriously injured myself, but managed to crawl out of it to lie on the floor and assess the damage. Thankfully nothing felt broken, but I definitely scared myself. It’s a good reminder how humbling yoga can be and why not to let your ego get in the way. Overconfidence gets you nowhere, hard work does.
I feel like this picture should be turned into one of those memes…What I think I’m doing vs what I’m actually doing. It totally felt like my back was bent more and that I was really deep into the scorpion, but not so much. Oh well, I have my starting point and know what not to do!
Wednesday I woke up to an email from a friend who owns one of the local (and my favourite) yoga studios. She had gifted me 6 months access to their online yoga videos so I can practice alongside them at home! It brought tears to my eyes because I long to be able to practice in the studio every day instead of at home and have been hoping they would start an online subscription similar to Reflexion Yoga. While their videos are filmed live and have a lower production value than what I currently follow, I’m still very excited for the gift and to follow along with the studio.
Of course after Liam was bed I dove right in to one of their videos, a quick 50 minute hatha flow that zipped by way too quick. My heart was happy! Afterwards I worked on moving from crow to headstand, which is an easy transition now, but still working on coming out of headstand back into crow.
Work Your Hips via Reflexion Yoga – I’m not sure if I’ve done this video before, but it incorporated a lot of poses I haven’t done in awhile such as fallen triangle, and made for a really fun flow. Of course afterwards I worked on my headstand but was eager to try side crow and was surprised when I actually got into it for a second or two!
It’s amazing how defeated I feel in the poses I’m not able to do yet, but then I surprise myself with the strength to get into other poses. Reason #492 why I love yoga so much.
Don’t judge that I’m wearing the same shirt. I usually just practice in a sports bra and throw a shirt on when I’m videoing, so it’s pretty clean!
I haven’t planned what video I’m going to do tonight, but I wrote down a goal of practicing yoga five days this week so I WILL be doing something. Maybe from Reflexion Yoga, maybe from Breathing Room, or maybe I’ll bust out some Jillian Michaels Yoga Inferno.
Hope you all have a great weekend, stay safe and warm out there! I’m hoping to take Liam to our Festival of Trees this evening, then if the roads are decent will be taking him to my parents place to watch their local Santa parade.
