Nothing is better than a night out with the girls. A few years ago, that would have meant getting all dolled up for a night of dancing at the club, but these days I much prefer to catch up over some cocktails and good food. What better place for a night of indulgence with some of your closest girls than Famoso, which is exactly where me and some friends met up last Thursday.
If you haven’t been to a Famoso before, you should probably check it out. They coin themselves a “fast casual style restaurant”, where you sit down and decide on your order, then take your order to the counter and let the staff continue to serve you from there. You can pay right at the counter when you order, or start a tab if you want to keep going. I have to say, even with the casualness, the service at my local Famoso has always been impeccable. I’ve never once had a bad experience and always leave completely impressed and satisfied.
We started off with some drinks and appies. When I heard limoncello lemonade was on special, I had to have one. Typically they’re one of my favourite cocktails, but the other girls kept talking about how amazing the sangria was and made me really wish I’d have ordered one of those too! For appetizers we shared the Mediterranean Flatbread (oven baked flatbread with garlic, oregano, feta, EVOO. Served with house-made tzatziki and Tuscan-style hummus) and Prosciutto Wrapped Mozzarella Balls (Fior-di-latte wrapped with prosciutto, baked in Campania tomato sauce, fresh basil, and pecorino romano. Served with flatbread.) The mozza balls were good, but the flatbread was TO DIE FOR. I could have ate nothing but that and left satisfied.
Onto the next course. Some of the girls ordered Caprese Salad to go with their pizzas, but I knew that I wanted dessert at the end of the meal and wanted to make sure I had room. I ordered the Cavoletti pizza (oven-roasted Brussels sprouts, prosciutto crisps, gorgonzola cheese, dates, walnuts, drizzle of honey) which is probably the best pizza on the menu, in my opinion. Not your average pizza toppings, but guaranteed to blow your mind. Are you up for the challenge?
Fun Cavoletti fact : since open (July 2013) I offer people to try it. Don’t like I’ll buy your replacement. No one has taken a replacement!

What I love about Famoso pizza is that it is authentic, Italian style pizza made with ingredients imported straight from Italy, hand stretched, hand tossed and then baked in a fire oven at 900 degrees for 90 seconds. The result is one of the best tasting creations your mouth has ever experienced.
Oh wait, the dessert might be a close competitor for the best tasting creation your mouth has experienced. Can we talk about how good gelato is? And it’s plentiful at Famoso, making it hard to nail down just which flavour to choose. It’s tempting just to sit and sample them all instead of actually ordering a scoop. As if we hadn’t indulged enough with our first and second course, but we couldn’t go without a Nutella pizza to share and a scoop of gelato each. By this point my stomach was sore, both from all the food and all the laughs from good company. I just couldn’t resist the seasonal gelato flavour…pumpkin spice! I definitely needed to be rolled home that night.
The food, the drinks, the service, the ambience, and most importantly the company was just what I needed for a great night out. Most of us have tiny humans at home that make it hard to get together like we used to, especially as a group, so I was especially thankful we were able to coordinate a time to meet up. Nights like these to happen a little more regularly, so let’s not wait so long until next time, ok ladies?
Whether you are looking for a quick lunch, yummy dessert, or a nice meal, Famoso has all of your bases loaded. Keep them in mind for your next girls night, office lunch, date night, or your quick take out meal on your way home. I promise you will be just as impressed and satisfied as me.
