Weekend Recap

October 6, 2014

This weekend was the perfect fall weekend. The weather was amazing all weekend and I wish I could have taken more advantage of being outside! The weather guy on the radio was throwing around that ‘S’ word again and I’m just hoping that it doesn’t happen.

Friday afternoon my department had planned a team building outing to a local corn maze. Not many people ended up being able to join, but I was happy to pick Liam up early to go have some fun. We stayed back to play while everyone else did the maze. Liam had a blast.

cornmaze1I was happy to see the scarf I ordered from Urban Cowgirl Designs had arrived before I left!

Liam was not happy to have to leave but it was starting to rain and I was late dropping him off at his dad’s. Once I dropped him off, I ran home for a quick outfit change, makeup refresh and bite to eat before heading out to a local wine and spirits fest (that I’ve coined Booze Fest) with one of my girlfriends from work. This is one of my favourite events of it’s kind and I have gone every year for the past five years (minus the year I was pregnant). You only pay your ticket in and everything else is no charge. There’s always tons of yummy snacks from local restaurants and the sponsor grocery store, as well as liquor reps of all kinds. It’s pretty easy to get out of control with unlimited drinks, but we managed to keep it fairly tame while still having a ton of fun.

My favourite drink of the night was a toss up between the Chinese Happy Wine or the Shock Top Raspberry White beer. I was fairly disappointed with the new Apothic Dark wine. Too bold for my taste.

I was home by 9:30 and just ended up watching an episode or two of Parenthood before calling it a night.

Luckily I woke up feeling pretty darn good Saturday morning. I was up and off to the farmer’s market for some much needed coffee and breakfast. It was such a beautiful morning, aside from the little bit of rain. I indulged in a few more macaron’s because this week there was PUMPKIN and they are every bit as amazing as they sound!

After the market I was off to my best friend’s baby shower. I didn’t snap any photos as I was far too busy gushing over the teeny tiny baby clothes. I can’t believe that there will be TWO brand new babies to snuggle in the very near future! Once the shower wrapped up I had a very strong desire to curl up in bed and be lazy, but instead went to the mall and indulged in a new outfit. I was on the hunt for a red plaid shirt and some black skinny dress pants. I was successful in finding both for decent prices! I still want to find a pair of mustard coloured pants, so if anyone has any leads on a nice pair, let me know! I was trying to find Liam a birthday outfit too but no luck. I realized I should probably have been spending my time getting his birthday party stuff together, oops. I also got groceries before going home to do a quick condo clean and laundry. It was a much needed night in to get my life put back together. I topped it off by finishing up Season 5 of Parenthood. Now I’m only behind the first two episodes of the current season!

I could have very well slept in Sunday morning, but instead set my alarm to get up for a run before getting Liam back. It was such a beautiful morning and while I was feeling very heavy and sluggish, still felt nice to feel the sun and fresh air. I showered and refuelled right before Liam and I were reunited and we took off to a friends house for the rest of the morning. She’s making me a quilt from all of my old concert tshirts and needed help determining which were the most important.

We made a pit stop at the Halloween store on our way home, but came up empty handed. Of course, Liam found a monkey costume he didn’t want to let go of, but it wasn’t his size. We will have to try another store this week and see if we have better luck or else I’m going to have to order something online (and soon!).

After Liam’s nap in the afternoon, I packed him up to go to the playground to soak up more of the beautiful day. Oddly enough, he wasn’t interested in going and I had to bribe him with cookies to get him into the car. Usually he’s all over trips to the park. And of course, after 1.5 hours there, he did not want to come home for dinner!

Such a great weekend! I’m glad I had some time to get some meal prep in during Liam’s nap, get my house cleaned and laundry done. I feel really gross after all of the birthday indulging and falling really hard off the paleo wagon. I need to get some of the veggies in my fridge used up before I pick up my last vegetable share of the season this week too. Back on track this week!

What was a highlight from your weekend?

They move every week so I can’t even tell you where to look. Text me next week if you go again. They’re also on FB, Meese’s Macarons.

YES! It’s Apothic Dark and is much bolder than the regular red! There’s a limited edition Rose too but I haven’t tried that one yet.

You had quite the busy weekend! Fun that you could take Liam with you to the work thing on Friday. It was gorgeous here yesterday too…if only this weather could stay around for longer!

I know! If we could have true fall for three months (or longer), it would be the best ever!
