Holy moly. Sorry for being MIA. Last week was a fairly terrible week in this house.
As I mentioned in last week’s weekend recap, Liam came down with pneumonia. On Monday I started to feel like I was coming down with a head cold and on Tuesday I got hit hard with it. I haven’t been so sick for a long time. Liam and I spent most of the week watching Bubble Guppies non-stop because I had no energy to move far from the couch. I was thankful for the friends that made some deliveries for me since I was not able to wrangle up a sick kid to go to the store while I was also sick. Thursday we were starting to feel better but ended up spending the afternoon at the ER after Liam tumbled off the kitchen chair and hit his head pretty hard. I just wanted to make sure he didn’t have a concussion, but he’s a tough cookie. By the time we got to the hospital, he was back to his normal self and flirting with all the nurses. It was a scary moment for this mama though! Someone got a ton of extra cuddles and kisses for the rest of the night.
Onto the weekend!
We were still at home Friday since Liam was still sounding rattly and I was still not feeling 100%. I ended up taking Liam back to the clinic to get another opinion on the rash he had before he got sick that was spreading, and to make sure his lungs were clear. Thankfully the rash is just excema and not something more serious linked to his sickness like I thought AND his lungs were clear! Now to just kill off his pesky runny nose and cough for good!
Of course I napped when Liam did, but I was woken up by a phone call from my friend from BC. I immediately knew something was up since we only talk a couple times a year. Turns out he was in Edmonton looking for a place to live as he’s moving there next month. While passing through Red Deer, he got in a car accident that totalled his car. Luckily he wasn’t injured at all, but he needed some help so I came to the rescue. I picked him up and we grabbed a case of beer, ordered pizza and hung out for the evening. Liam LOVED him and was not happy to have to go to bed even though I allowed him to stay up way past his bed time!
I took my friend to the police station so he could file a statement on his accident and then we headed to the Farmer’s Market! It was the first market of the year and I’m so happy to have my Saturday morning tradition back. It was so crazy busy by the time we made it there so we just made our way through without looking too closely at much. I bought a giant bag of apples for Liam since they’re his favourite thing to eat right now and an iced coffee before heading home for some lunch and a nap for Liam. We all ended up having a nap!
Once we were all awake we took Liam to the playground for a bit, grabbed lunch at Chopped Leaf and then I drove my friend to the bus station so he could make his trek back to BC. It was so nice having him around and catching up since the last time I saw him was when Layne and I went out to visit exactly two years ago!
The weather was pretty miserable on Sunday which ruined my plan of taking Liam to the carnival that was in town. Instead I took Liam out to my parents for the day. He had a great time splashing in puddles and playing with Grandma and Grandpa all day. It was a bit of a break for me, I just lounged on the couch most of the day.
Monday morning Liam and I went grocery shopping before meeting up with my parents again. We were going to attempt the carnival but the website had the wrong time listed. Instead we thought we’d go to Sunnybrook Farm to see the animals but there weren’t any yet. Womp womp. We played at the playground for a bit before going for lunch at Famoso. We could have attempted the carnival after since I let Liam have some gelato and he was jacked up on sugar with no intention of napping, but didn’t want to risk a potential meltdown. We will just have to wait until Westerner Days to take him on some rides.
Clearly I don’t take photos of anything besides Liam. It’s bittersweet to have to go back to work again. Being home with Liam for a full week has been exhausting but lots of fun. It will be nice to get back into routine.
What did you do to enjoy your long weekend?
