50 Things I Love About Mom

January 20, 2014

Today is my mom’s 50th birthday! We had a family lunch to celebrate on the weekend but I wish I could be there with her today to bring her some cake. Well kind of, she caught Liam’s stomach bug while babysitting. I feel terrible that she’s sick on her special day and that I can’t be there with her so I decided to share 50 things I love about her…

1) Her cooking. She makes the best food, no matter what it is. I always love going home for dinner and I especially love when I get leftovers sent home.
2) The way she takes photos unlike anyone else.
3) That she’s followed her passion for art all of these years.
4) Her kind heart
5) Her laugh, especially when she laughs EXTRA hard
6) The sound of her voice when she read to me as a kid, and how she reads to Liam now.
7) Her love of animals that she shares with both Liam and I
8) She doesn’t take crap from anybody
9) Her eyes and her smile
10) The way everyone thinks they know her from somewhere
11) How she always thinks she hates the music I listen to, but listens to much of the same stuff I do
12) When she thinks her own jokes are the most hilarious
13) Her wit and sarcasm, even if it’s not as sharp as mine 😉
14) The way she has my back even after I mess up
15) How she always knows the guy I’m dating isn’t the right one, even though I hate it at the time
16) The way she learned to knit skulls for sweaters and toques even though she hates things with skulls on them
17) The sacrifices she’s made to help me through life
18) Her willingness to help even if she’s busy with her own life
19) The way she loves Liam
20) Her loving personality
21) Her cautiousness which has spilled onto me
22) The fact that she gave birth and raised me to be so awesome in the first place :p
23) She’d go to war for me
24) She assured me I would be the best mom in the world
25) She’s still proud of me even though I’ve made mistakes
26) I can tell her everything
27) She’s tough, even if she doesn’t think so
28) She’s weird, but so am I
29) She puts family first
30) She’s a talented photographer, painter, drawer, knitter……
31) She’s made my best friend her adopted daughter
32) She made me an independent person
33) She believes in me
34) I love the way she beats me at Clue every single time, even when I try so hard to beat her
35) She taught me to manners and etiquette
36) I love how I can always find chocolate stashed away somewhere in her house
37) I love that she supports whatever weird diet plan I’m on
38) She gave me my love of music
39) She sometimes left me cute notes and pictures in my lunches for school
40) She is humble
41) She married the best man ever
42) She instilled some really important values in me
43) The way she follows Buddhist principles rather than organized religion
44) Her competitiveness
45) How terrible she is at Mario Kart
46) She tries her best at everything
47) She’s put up with me for almost 28 years
48) Her crab toes
49)She loves me unconditionally
50) She’s my mom!
