New Years Eve Recap

January 2, 2014

Going back to work Monday and Tuesday after having 10 days off was really hard. Even Liam didn’t want to be woken up early and was extra clingy being dropped off at the day home.

Luckily Tuesday was a short day and I was able to go home earlier than normal. I stopped by the grocery store to pick up some snacks for the evenings before doing a quick clean up while Liam finished his nap at the day home. Once I picked him up and got back home our friend and her little girl stopped in for a visit. It was so nice to see them since we hadn’t got to visit with them since summer, before I went back to work. It’s so cute to see how much the babies have grown and interact with each other. Of course Liam was being his typical ladies man self and was giving kisses. He’s such a sweet boy.

After they left a few more people stopped in and we had pizza dinner and hung out and chatted. I had another friend bring her baby whom I hadn’t met yet and I adored making her smile and giggle. She’s about five months old and really made me miss when Liam was that age.

By early evening we were only down to three people but we tried to put together a game of Cards Against Humanity. I’d never played the game before and even though we didn’t have enough players to play properly, it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately Cassandra’s kid didn’t want to go to sleep so she had a bit of a struggle and ended up leaving around 10, ending the quiet little party. The rest of the evening was spent complaining about being up past my bed time while watching the Niagra Falls countdown and promptly going to bed after a quick glass of champagne.

Unfortunately I was having some major sleep issues so I felt like I had been partying much harder than I actually was.

New Years Day was spent reading stories with my boy before cooking up a nice big breakfast for us. A friend stopped by to help us eat all the eggs, peppered bacon and hashbrowns I made and we had a good visit before nap time came. I had big plans of doing some cleaning and reorganizing but decided to embrace the quiet and lie down while Liam napped. Those are my favourite moments. Once Liam was awake he went to his dad’s for the afternoon and I spent the rest of the day cleaning and reorganizing the pantry and a couple cupboards and doing some meal prep for the rest of the week. I hauled out one GIANT garbage bag to the dumpster which was really surprising. My next spot to tackle will be the closets and hopefully I can get that done over the weekend.

I’m going to finally let go of all the clothes that don’t fit me anymore and sell them or donate them. Any money I get back from them will go towards building a new wardrobe! I’ve been sad about my favourite clothes that don’t fit anymore but since part of my goals for the year is to let go of the past, it’s time to let go of my old clothes. They are just clothes after all, I can buy new ones!

Once Liam was home and in bed, I had a nice long hot shower and did a bed time yoga routine. I registered for YogaGlo and hope to do yoga at least once a week. At $18/month, it’s pretty cheap compared to studio memberships.

I have to say, I really enjoyed my quiet NYE and spending the first day of the year with my little man and preparing for a year of success.

How did you spend the last day of 2013 and the first day of 2014?

I’ve been thinking about registering ever since you blogged about it and I’m really glad I did!

Sounds like the perfect NYE to me! I love that you have so many visitors coming over!

We had a quiet NYE as well- stayed in and watched a movie. On NYD, J went snowboarding and A and I did some shopping. My BFF came over for a visit while Audrey did NOT nap and then we went out for dinner when J got home.

I seriously feel like I purge every couple of months and still have tons of stuff! We finally got rid of a couple wedding gifts that we had never used and therefore likely never will. A charitable donation company does pick ups every few months so I save stuff for them. Makes it so much easier to get rid of stuff.

Good plan on the clothes. It’s hard to let go of things.

I know, I’m constantly trying to sell/give things away on Kijiji and stuff but I keep finding more and more stuff. I really like the idea of being minimalist and not hoarding a bunch of stuff I don’t need or use. Plus the extra cash in my pocket is always a bonus!
