The Past Week…

December 29, 2013

You’d think after not blogging for a week over Christmas I would have a ton to say, but honestly I don’t. I’m just going to do a quick recap of the last week before I head off to bed. I have to go back to work tomorrow, womp womp.

Last weekend I had Liam all weekend because his dad had the flu. Saturday we did some relaxing at home before braving the streets for some last minute errands.

Sunday morning we headed to Alix’s in our pjs for her Pancakes and Pajamas brunch.

We had a great time seeing friends and eating pancakes. Afterwards Liam and I were off to Rocky to my parents place for the holidays. Unfortunately my mom had come down with something and was really sick. I had hoped it was just a quick bug and she would be better in the next day or two.

Dad had to work and mom was quarantined away from Liam so he wouldn’t get sick. Made for a bit of a boring day. Luckily we had plans to meet Danielle for coffee. It was a great visit! It’s too bad we didn’t live closer because we would surely be BFFs. Liam was a total ham for everyone in A&W which was hilarious.

Since mom was still sick I had to cancel my usual Christmas Eve game night with friends so instead I met them in town for a beer before dinner. My dad had come home early from work so he hung out with Liam while I went. By the time I had got home I was starting to feel really sick myself and ended up going to bed shortly after Liam with the aches and chills.

Unfortunately Liam decided at about 11pm that he didn’t want to sleep anymore. I was feeling a bit better but not happy about being up until nearly 1am letting Liam play so he would go back to sleep. Crazy kid.

Dad had to work again in the morning so Liam and I just hung out and played. I was feeling better mostly but my stomach was feeling off. It was the weirdest flu or whatever I had ever had. I wasn’t actually sick at all that day but just didn’t feel good. It was disappointing that we weren’t able to do any of our usual Christmas Eve traditions, playing games, eating appies, driving to see Christmas lights. I had really wanted to take Liam to see the famous Von Hollen house since he was too young to know what was going on last year and rumour has it he’s not doing lights next year. We spent the evening watching some cheesy Christmas movies before bed.

My unhappy tummy made me feel the wrath Christmas morning. I was up before Liam at 6 am sick as a dog. Mom had been feeling better Tuesday night but was back to being really sick again too. Christmas morning was kind of a bummer. We opened stockings and Liam’s Santa gifts before breakfast but it was awhile until we got around to opening the rest of the gifts. After lunch I think everyone went for a nap, haha. It was pretty uneventful. We decided to postpone dinner until everyone was healthy enough to enjoy it. Great ploy on moms end, she didn’t have to do any cooking or cleaning!

Posty, Liam’s favourite gift.

Liam was up at 5:30 and would not go back to sleep. Awful. I ended up packing up quite early and hitting the road for home about 9am. I had planned to stay until Friday or Saturday morning but with mom being so sick and Liam not sleeping well and being pretty cranky most of the time, I figured it would be best for us to be home in our own beds. It was a total bummer having to leave without getting to enjoy Christmas like we normally do. I dropped Liam off with his dad and went home for a big long afternoon nap before putting everything away and taking down the Christmas tree.

Liam came back before bed Thursday night and treated me to a sleep in! It was nearly 9:30 before we got out of bed which was AMAZING! We had a nice lazy morning together before picking up a friend for lunch.

Making friends with random babies at lunch

I dropped Liam off with his dad again after lunch and spent the rest of the afternoon driving around doing random things with my friend. After I dropped him off I was off for dinner and a movie. We ate at Earls and I was told to stray from my usual chicken and brie sandwich so I resorted back to my old usual  which is the chicken rocket salad. Soooo good. We went to the late showing of American Hustle which I was excited to see but it was so long and kind of slow so I didn’t really enjoy it.

Saturday morning was a lazy one spent in bed before I decided to brave the snow for coffee and a breakfast bagel. I settled in to watch The Heat which I rented on my new Apple TV. I just have to say, I had Boxee before getting Apple TV and it was so hard to use. Apple TV is so easy so if anyone is in the market, I highly recommend.

I spent the afternoon getting my hair done before an early dinner out at Famoso before Liam came home. The evening was spent watching Now You See Me (really good) and Drinking Buddies (do not recommend). Do you see a trend? Lots of eating out and movie watching this weekend.

The usual brunch at the ranch which I was so excited for. I had been thinking of their eggs benny for weeks! I think they have the best in town. After brunch we headed for some groceries and to wash my car before coming home for nap time. I napped while Liam did which was glorious.

Now it’s time to shower and go to bed early so I can be rested for work tomorrow. I sure wish I could have taken this week off too. Now that mom and I are feeling better, I’m anxious to get in some better quality family time in and have some Christmas dinner finally!

The good news about being sick over the holidays though? I actually lost a few pounds instead of gaining from all the treats!

Aww, so sorry you guys were all sick for Christmas! No fun. And no Von Hollen lights next year?! We love them, but never made it this year.
Obviously our bets part of Christmas this year was having Avery with us 🙂 Even though she is too young to understand any of it, still was so much fun.
I hope you get to enjoy a delayed turkey dinner soon!

I’ve always wanted to go to Famoso and try that new restaurant! Is that a place you should make a reservation at or can you typically walk in right away? 🙂

My favourite part of Christmas was having my son with us this year and having him there when my boyfriend proposed at the Zoolights!

Holy!! Congratulations! What an amazing Christmas for you!

Famoso doesn’t need reservations but which other new one are you referring to?
