What a great weekend that was!
I kicked it off bright and early Saturday morning. I tried to wake up before Liam which wasn’t easy. But I had to get us up and out of the house by 8am! I was dropping him off at Cassandra’s so I could go to the 2nd Annual Mother’s Day Fun Run (Layne had to work). Coach Melea from Crossfit joined me for the 5km race which was super fun. It was a beautiful morning to run.
I have no idea what my time was. I was running a little behind and was in a rush so didn’t bring my phone. I had assumed there would be a clock at the finish line but there wasn’t, and as far as I can see there haven’t been any times posted anywhere. That’s ok though, our goal was just to complete it. Melea wants to find a 10k to run next. Yikes, I’d have to do a bit of training to get my distance up before I could do that!

Afterwards I picked up my kid and got him ready to go to Edmonton with his dad for the afternoon. They were going to visit Layne’s family for Mother’s Day. I had a dental appointment in the afternoon so I wasn’t able to join. Sounds like they had a great time. Meanwhile I got my teeth cleaned, grocery shopped and did some tidying around the house before checking out the new International Beer Haus with Cassandra for dinner. Totally a thrilling way to spend my free time, right?
Dinner was really good. I had a Lobster Grilled Cheese sandwich and fries. I was surprised that it was so dead in there on a Saturday night. I think there was maybe two other tables aside from us. No complaints from me though! The boys got home shortly after I got back from dinner and boy was I happy to see them!
The late night for Liam should have meant he would sleep in for me on Mother’s Day, but nope, he was up at 5:30. Luckily Layne got up with him but I was awake so I got up too for a little bit. Cassandra and I had talked about going for a run together in the morning so I waited until 7ish to see if she was still up for it. I ended up falling back asleep and neither of us felt up for a run after that. Instead Layne, Liam and I went to Moxie’s for breakfast. It was pretty good! I had a mimosa (which I got ID’d for ordering!) and their stuffed French toast with a side of bacon. My Mother’s Day gift was $200 to spend at Target for new clothes since Layne knows how much I’m hating my closet right now, and how much I’m clothing the cute, inexpensive clothes at Target. We grabbed Starbucks while I browsed. I picked up a couple more tanks, a cardigan, a workout shirt, and a dress (which I have to return). I ended up also getting a new shirt and percussion set for Liam.
I still have a bit of my budget left so I hope to go back when they get some more stock in. Since I need to buy new clothes, I want to try and build a versatile wardrobe. I usually don’t consider anything when I buy individual pieces and then end up wearing the same outfits instead of mixing pieces and trying new looks.
I’m so happy to be this guy’s mom!
After shopping I packed up and drove to Rocky to visit my mom. We had a great afternoon visit watching Liam roll around with all his toys and trying to catch the dog. Dad grilled some bison steaks for dinner before we came home. It was a really nice day. Mother’s Day has a bigger meaning now that I’ve become a mom. It’s made me realize how much work being a mother is and I appreciate my own mom for everything she did for me.
How did everyone else spend Mother’s Day?
