Botanica is located downtown in the Red Deer Lodge. It’s a unique little place, a courtyard in the middle of the hotel. It’s never very busy so we don’t worry about making a reservation and there’s never a line for the buffet. I know this can seem like a bad sign, but in this case it’s definitely not.

We’ve been to Botanica a lot but last weekend happened to be St. Patrick’s Day and they had a ton of festive food on the buffet line. Irish Cream chicken? Delicious. Guinness Basted Beef? Yes, please! Green eggs at the omelete station? SO FUN! Green jello, pistachio pudding and tons more green desserts too. Seriously, awesome. It really makes me want to go back on other holidays to see what kind of fare they have.

The number one best thing about Botanica? The chocolate fountain. I’m pretty sure they are the only buffet in Red Deer now that features the chocolate fountain. A friend of ours even had the brilliant idea to dip his bacon into it one time. If that isn’t a good idea, I’m not sure what is.

The price is reasonable, at about $22 a plate (I can’t remember exactly). It’s not the cheapest, but it’s not outrageous comparably. The service is always excellent and the food is always fresh. I give it 4 green egg omeletes out of 5.
