I used to do most of my weekly shopping at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday, but it’s turned into such a social event when we go weekly and I get overwhelmed with all of the selection. Last year was the first year the Downtown Business Association started the Downtown Market on Wednesday evenings. I much prefer to do my shopping there now.
It is a much smaller market, with only local food producers, no home businesses like Scentsy and Avon and all that extra stuff that litters the Saturday market. You can find anything from fresh baked breads, cakes, farm grown chicken, beef and wild game and tons of fresh produce.
This week I hit up the market and left with a bag full of goodies which I turned into a delicious dinner. Elk smokies, homemade perogies and corn on the cob.
I love being able to support local and get fresh, locally grown foods so easily. If only Red Deer had markets like this year round!
