Movies, Moving and Many Good Eats

August 27, 2012

I can’t believe this past weekend was the last weekend of August! Where has the time gone? Seriously?! And how many times have asked this since I got knocked up, haha!

Friday night was the final drive in movie, so they were also hosting a parking lot party. Cassandra and I got there early with the Escape loaded with pillows and blankets so we could get a good spot to watch. Peppermint Andy’s was there and I actually had her ice cream for the first time rather than just popsicles! I went with spotted cow which was a mixture of vanilla, chocolate and loaded with chocolate chips. So good. We thought there were going to be more food trucks there so we hadn’t eaten dinner but there was only a BBQ. We decided pizza sounded like a better idea so called our friends that were meeting us there to pick up some Buster’s for us. Best idea ever! Pizza and movie night was perfect. The movie they were showing was ET which I barely remembered from my childhood. Such a classic!

Saturday morning was the usual farmer’s market trip. There aren’t many left now before it’s over which makes me sad! The rest of the day was spent at home while Layne moved the majority of his stuff in. Talk about anxiety. I’m kind of a neat/organizational freak so I was panicking about the boxes everywhere and where things are going to go. It’s definitely going to be an adjustment as I’ve lived alone for nearly 6 years now.

Saturday evening was a late one for me. My cousin was in town photographing a wedding and wanted to crash at my place so I was up late waiting for him to arrive. I think we hit the sack around 2:30am and of course I woke up stupid early and couldn’t fall back asleep so I was a tired one on Sunday. We hit up Cora’s for delicious brunch before meeting up with some other friends at OJ’s for lunch (didn’t eat, just hung out). Then it was time to hit up the Little Ice Cream and Soda Shoppe to see if they had my cousin’s favorite ice cream, Nibs. Luckily they did so we each enjoyed a cone. Mmmm.

Once he headed home I went over to the boy’s place for delicious dinner they were cooking. Beer butt, butter basted chicken, asparagus, pasta salad and bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers. SOOO good. And it was so good not to have to cook or worry about groceries for Sunday night.

Today I had delicious lunch at Dose with Lindsey who gave me an adorable baby gift. Thank you SO much Lindsey! The special today at Dose was prosciutto grilled cheese and blueberry feta salad. Holy yum. I’m pretty sure I inhaled my sandwich, it was SO good. If you’re in Red Deer and have yet to try out Dose, you need to go ASAP. I’ve never had a bad lunch there so far.

What is the yummiest thing you’ve eaten recently?
How did you spend your last summer weekend ?

I made a homemade ‘Tofurkey’, but it was with vital wheat gluten instead of tofu. I stuffed it with a sage and celery dressing, and served it with herb gravy, barley pilaf, and caprese salad. Not usually one to toot my own horn, but damn, it was good! 😀

It’s located upstairs in Sunworks, downtown on Ross. You’d love it I’m sure!
