Happy Independence Day to all of my American readers (do I even have any American readers??)
I can’t believe I’m already writing another Workout Wednesday post. Ok, so I didn’t workout for like a week, it still feels like I JUST got back from holidays.
I have to admit though, I don’t have much to report this week. I got home late Tuesday night last week so I was still able to make it to my prenatal yoga class. Glorious, as yoga always is.
Thursday was kind of a ridiculous WOD at Crossfit. We started with 3×3 back squats. I stuck with the 85lbs that I’ve been rolling with lately. The WOD was 4 rounds of an AMRAP 3 minutes with 1 minute rest of 3 power cleans, 6 knees to elbos and 9 wall balls. I rolled with 35lbs for my cleans and a 14lb medicine ball for the wall balls. I don’t find cleans or walls balls too bad but the knees to elbows were a bit ridiculous. I wasn’t ever very good at them before I grew a beach ball of a belly, because I would just end up swinging and flailing everywhere, but now with the beach ball belly I can hardly get my legs up. Ridiculous. To score you totaled how many full sets plus additional reps. I finished 8 full sets, plus 12 power cleans, 12 knees to elbow and 4 wall balls. Looked about average compared to the rest of the board so I don’t feel too horrible about it.
Friday was nice after work so I decided to go for a run. It ended up being horrible. My legs were still pretty sore from all of the walking in Montreal and it didn’t take long before they were screaming at me. I didn’t push it so ended up walking most of the way. That just made me even more mad because the mosquitoes were out in full force and attacking me like crazy. I couldn’t even run away from them! I will remember bug spray next time I hit the trail.
I decided that I would give myself a break from running for a few days to let my legs recover a bit so the long weekend saw no exercise. Unless you count sleeping in? Thinking back now I probably should have hopped on the elliptical Monday to get some cardio. Oh well.
I was nervous going into Tuesday’s Crossfit class seeing that there was running on the menu. We started off with clean and jerks (5×4) which I used 35lbs for and they were feeling really good. I think I’m improving on them. Either that or the new trainer is just being nice and not picking them apart. the WOD was another 15 minute AMRAP of 5 right hand thrusters, 5 left hand thrusters and 400m run. Since it was a little rainy still from the massive storm we had in the afternoon (seriously, heavy rain, hail and flash floods all over the city) we had the choice to run or row. I thought I’d try out the run and switch to rowing if absolutely necessary. I made it through 2 rounds before my shins started to get really sore and tight and by the third round I could barely go anymore. I was forced to switch to rowing and that severely ticked me off. I made it through 4 rounds, plus 5 right hand and 5 left hand thrusters and 187m row. Could have done better. The coach told me the best thing I could do was roll out my shins so I did that for a bit which makes me want to invest in a roller for at home so I can do more rolling.
I’m hoping today’s yoga class might help with some of the tightness. I guess I’m forced to take a break from running for even longer now which sucks. I was just improving on distance and everything and I really wanted to be in good shape for the Mud Hero in a couple weeks. But I know rest is better than continuing in pain. It’s just frustrating.
Hopefully this coming week will bring some better workouts and less soreness.
