Music Monday: Gob

July 2, 2012

Hopefully everyone has been enjoying their Canada Day long weekend (for those of us in Canada). I sure have been. The weather has been gorgeous and I randomly attended another pub show in town! For not having any concerts on the horizon, I’ve been loving the little shows that keep popping up around town.

Saturday morning my best friend texted me that Gob was playing at a local sports bar. I was in. For those that don’t know, Gob is a punk band from BC. They’ve been around since the 90’s but the height of their popularity came in the early 2000’s with the release of their albums The World According to Gob and Foot and Mouth Disease.

It had been a really long time since I had heard anything about this band before I found out they were in town. I’m pretty sure it had been a few years ago when they played another small pub show in town. The singer confirmed during the show that they hadn’t played a show in about five years!! They were back in full force with a new drummer after their former drummer left to join Avril Lavigne’s band.

For not having played in that long and having a new member, they sure sounded bang on and put on a super good show with all of their old classics. It was definitely a good time, despite the fact that it was passed our bed times and we were sleepy, it sucks getting old.

Gob is putting the finishing touches on a new record that should be out soon. I’m interested to hear it after such a long hiatus.

Did you ever listen to Gob back in the day?
