A few years ago I discovered an American frozen yogurt (aka fro-yo) chain known as Pink Berry, where you could choose your flavor of yogurt and top it with endless combinations of toppings from fruit and nuts, to cereals, to marshmallows and chocolates. I know, you’re all thinking the same thing. Isn’t Yogen Fruz the same thing? No, no it is not. For some reason I’m just not a fan of Yogen Fruz, Pink Berry was where it was at and I searched high and low for one on my US travels.
Fast forward to my entry into the blog world and discovered similar self serve fro-yo shops were all the rage in the blog community and were everywhere in the States. NO FAIR! Why does America get all the cool stuff?! I waited patiently for Alberta to catch up to the time. Sure enough, last year Tutti Frutti opened on Whyte Ave in Edmonton. It was heaven. So many unique yogurt flavors, so many fun toppings, so little time for it all to get in my belly! Any opportunity I had, I would stop there when I was visiting the city.
Then a few weeks ago Lindsey mentioned there was a yogurt shop going in right here in Red Deer. GASP! For real?! FINALLY!! I eagerly awaited the day when it would open. I may have grown a little impatient, I mean c’mon, I AM pregnant and everyone knows pregnant ladies love their frozen treats!
Yesterday it was finally time, fro-yo day was here! I didn’t hesitate getting my booty down to Menchies ASAP and loaded up with cake batter and pina colada fro-yo with raspberry lemonade sorbet, topped with everything from peanut butter sauce (omg YUM!), shredded coconut, mochi balls (flavor bursts in your mouth, the best!), cereals, chocolate chips and more. It was definitely worth the sugar high and following crash.
So worth it that I took my best friend after dinner. Yes, in the same day.
I’m not sure that anyone in Red Deer is more excited than me (and Lindsey) for a fro-yo shop to have finally opened, but I can tell you with certainty that I will become a regular there.
What would be your favorite fro-yo topping?
I really can’t choose one, there’s so many fun choices!
