Pumpkin Faces in the Night

October 31, 2011

Dressing up is probably my favorite thing about Halloween. I LOVE dressing up and always have.

I hate that Halloween is a an excuse for girls to wear as little as possible. I like to try and come up with something a little different. Unfortunately I always get sick this time of year so I don’t always get to be very creative with costumes. My favorite one recently was two years ago when I was a zombie. One of my good friends went to school for special effects makeup and did an amazing job turning me into a zombie two years in a row!

It’s way more fun to dress up scary then dress up slutty.

I bartend at one of the local nightclubs on the weekend and we were having a huge Halloween bash with Wide Mouth Mason and Big Sugar. I don’t have a problem taking a night off work from the bar if there’s something awesome happening and Halloween weekend would have been one of those nights, but I knew there would be big money and opted out of Halloween. Unfortunately this meant I wasn’t able to dress up as an awesome zombie like I wanted to this year:

Seriously, how cool is that?

Our theme at the bar was Cowboy’s and Indian’s, which is super original considering we are a country bar….Anyways, I opted to go as an Indian (or should I say Native Canadian??). I remembered having a homemade Indian costume from when I was a kid and thought maybe I could steal pieces from it to put together something for my new costume. When I went home for Thanksgiving I dug it out. There wasn’t much to salvage but I did have fun laughing about the fact that I thought it was for a school play, when in fact it was a Halloween costume. Thinking about it now, it seems weird that this is what my mom sent me out as. The town I grew up in has a fairly large Native American population, with a reserve just outside the town. I’m thinking perhaps I wanted to be Pocahontas and we just missed the mark slightly? I was still lucky that I had some unique, homemade costumes growing up though. No one ever had the same costume as me!

I opted for a new costume this year, that one was just a BIT too small.

Almost the same, right?

Even though I didn’t get to do my own Halloween celebrating, I had a lot of fun at work. The bands rocked and I loved seeing everyone’s awesome costumes. Some of my favorites included a Wayne and Garth from Wayne’s World, a Frankenstein and his bride, Napolean Dynamite and a Nintendo Controller. Not to mention, my manager in a loin cloth :p

What was your favorite Halloween costume that you’ve worn or that you saw this weekend?
