One of my favorite healthy snacks is hummus. It’s so delicious and can be used in a variety of different ways – vegetable dip, sandwich spread, with pitas, or even as a dessert! It’s so easy to make yourself, which alot of people don’t know, which is why it’s always my go-to recipe if I’m required to bring food to a potluck or get together.
But once in awhile I just don’t have the ingredients handy so I opt to buy and when I do there is only one place I will go which is Humble Hummus at the local farmer’s market.
Humble Hummus is the creation of local radio DJ Jason Foui and is known for his many variations of hummus, ranging from mild to very spicy. Of course, my favorite kind of hummus is the Roasted Red Pepper, but this week I decided to try the Humble Spice, mostly because I got there too late and it was the last one left. That’s the thing about Jason’s hummus, you have to get to it early because it sells out every single week.
The Humble Spice is apparently the most popular (and original) recipe. It contains Jalapeno, chili peppers, cayenne peppers, garlic and lemon making it 6/10 on the spicy scale. It was the perfect amount of kick but not so much that you need to douse your mouth in water. Delicious and highly recommended!
If you’re ever in a pinch for a dish to take somewhere or just want a really great, healthy snack for yourself, hit the farmer’s market early and go see Jason!
